DAN LACHACZ

July 14 - August 25, 2014
Reception: Sunday, July 20 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM
Photograph by Dan Lachacz

Dan Lachacz is a self-taught photographer who focuses on contrasts. Lachacz takes the familiar and abstracts the perspective of which the object would traditionally appear. The final result is a photograph that is simultaneously recognizable and foreign. The distorted imagery and unreal qualities of his work capture the viewers as they try to make sense of the image.

LOCAL HAPPENINGS...

South Bay Art Association and the Brookhaven Arts & Humanities Council will be hosting Paint the Great South Bay Plein Air Event and Wet Paint Sale from August 21-August 24. For more information contact the event Chairperson, Gina Lento, at 631-289-7740 or JLento@optonline.net or visit www.brookhavenarts.org.

Call for Artists - The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council along with The Bellport Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Bellport is accepting submissions for an outdoor sculpture that will become the branding of the sailing, boating and waterfront community of Bellport to be installed at the four corners or at Village Hall in the Summer of 2014. Artists must submit detailed sketches or a small scale model and be able to reproduce the sculpture in life size, suitable for outdoor installation, and able to be structurally secured to a concrete pad capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions in high traffic areas. The piece must be safe for children and suitable for family viewing. No work can exceed 15 feet in height or weigh more than 500 pounds, due to the limitations of the equipment available for installation and security. A non-refundable fee of $25 must accompany each submission. All entries must be submitted by Sunday, June 29, 2014 and will be accepted at the Phoenix Gallery in Bellport between 12:00-4:00 PM. A panel representing the Village of Bellport, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council will select the winning design. Visit www.brookhavenarts.org, or call 631-776-0811 for more information.

Patchogue Sketch Club
The Patchogue Sketch Club was created for the purpose of getting people together to discover the value of sketching. Sketching itself is its own art form; sketching helps artists "see" better and enhances drawing skills. Sketching is also a fun way of recording the world around us much more intimately than a camera.

For more information about upcoming sketch outings and gatherings visit their blog at

Stories

The Patchogue Arts Council and Herstory Writer's Workshop invites you to join our ongoing memoir-writing workshop, Bridges To Justice.  Join men and women from all walks of life as they share their true stories about their efforts to create a more equitable and inclusive world.  Erika Duncan, Herstory founder, novelist, and former writer for
The New York Times Long Island Weekly, facilitates this free weekly workshop designed to unite and inspire our community.  No writing experience is necessary, simply the desire to connect through your story and the stories of the other participants.

The Bridges To Justice workshop meets every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to Noon at the Patchogue Arts Gallery located at 20 Terry St. in Patchogue.  It was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Knapp-Swezey Foundation, Briarcliffe College, and the New York State Council on the Arts.   For more information, email literaryarts@patchoguearts.com.
