Projections: New Installations by
Michelle Carollo and Jason Paradis
Patchogue Arts Gallery, 20 Terry St., Patchogue
Artist Reception: Saturday, May 3 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM
Through June 21

Projections features site-specific installations from the artists Michelle Carollo and Jason Paradis. Each artist begins on the wall with paintings that migrate or project into three-dimensional space. Site-specific installations are unique to the space they occupy and cannot be replicated elsewhere.

Michelle Carollo makes drawings, sculptures, and large installations of abstract, colorful forms in the interest of creating room-sized, three-dimensional abstract paintings. Her work blurs the line between the illusionary space found in a two-dimensional abstract painting and the physical space an individual occupies.

Jason Paradis contemplates the fundamental mysteries of life and the existence of something larger. His interests lie in the moment where the past, present, and future collide. Elements of his current environment, laced with reflection, memory, and speculation, are filtered through his layered approach to art.

REDACTED: Connecting Dots in a Shifting Field

April 13 - June 1, 2014
Reception May 4 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Curated by Janet Goleas

REDACTED is an exhibition concept
encompassing the sort of editorial decisions that are manifest in myriad representations such as literature, current events, historical documents, and aspects of contemporary life in general.

"Redaction," is often used synonymously with the term "censorship" and has a complex meaning. Literature can be morphed, history rewritten, entire hypotheses thwarted or converted through multiple redactions. The visual brain can be upended with disarming, often thrilling, results. REDACTED examines how revamped visual information can variously disguise, alter, enhance, or camouflage the meaning of a painting, sculpture, video, or photography.

Annual Open Call 2014

Mash Up: Collages in Mixed Media
June 29 - September 14, 2014
Curated By Stephen Lamia, Ph.D. (Dowling College)

It has been slightly over one hundred years since Picasso and Braque experimented with the then new art form called "collage." To mark that ground-breaking innovation, the Islip Art Museum announces its Annual Open Call for artists to contribute work displaying this century-old art form. As has been previously done, we are calling upon the global community of artists to submit work for an exhibition featuring collages in mixed media. This exhibition promotes and encourages artists to employ both conventional and unconventional ideas about collages, especially those that incorporate two or more media. Visit islipartmuseum.org for more information.

Sketch
Patchogue Sketch Club
The Patchogue Sketch Club was created for the purpose of getting people together to discover the value of sketching. Sketching itself is its own art form; sketching helps artists "see" better and enhances drawing skills. Sketching is also a fun way of recording the world around us much more intimately than a camera.

For more information about upcoming sketch outings and gatherings visit their blog at
