CONNECTING THROUGH OUR STORIES

The Patchogue Arts Council and Herstory Writer's Workshop invites you to join our ongoing memoir-writing workshop, Bridges To Justice.  Join men and women from all walks of life as they share their true stories about their efforts to create a more equitable and inclusive world.  Erika Duncan, Herstory founder, novelist, and former writer for The New York Times Long Island Weekly, facilitates this free weekly workshop designed to unite and inspire our community.  No writing experience is necessary, simply the desire to connect through your story and the stories of the other participants.

The Bridges To Justice workshop meets every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to Noon at the Patchogue Arts Gallery located at 20 Terry St. in Patchogue.  It was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Knapp-Swezey Foundation, Briarcliffe College, and the New York State Council on the Arts.   For more information, email literaryarts@patchoguearts.com.

Shock - U - Mentaries features site-specific installations and works created for the Islip Art Museum. Exhibiting artists include Lorrie Fredette, Tony Ingrisano, Tobi Kahn, Heather Layton, and Jeffery Allen Price. Installations are intended to lure viewers in, yet upon further examination they encounter a thought provoking work and must explore the artists' reaction to disaster whether it is personal, local, national, or international.

In support of local artists, the Islip Art Museum's gift shop will feature "Flora-Fauna," an exhibition of the work of Jennifer Formica. Formica's photographic images are meant to evoke the inner psyche and reveal the hidden beauty of organic matter.

LOCAL HAPPENINGS...

fotofoto gallery located at 14 West Carver St., Huntington is pleased to announce its first exhibition of 2014 featuring the work of two Italian artists, photographer Paolo Tosti and jewelry designer Monica Maestrelli. The exhibition is on view thru February 23 and will also include work created by local photography students during a workshop directed by Mr. Tosti and taught by local artist Allison Rufrano at the 2013 Umbria Foto Festival in Gubbio, Italy. This exhibition is a result of the gallery's commitment to international outreach and cultural exchange. In addition, the gallery is once again hosting an exhibition of photographs by students of the Knox School in St. James, NY.

Selected artwork will be displayed at multiple venues and will have an enormous impact on building an inclusive society - one that rejects hatred. Visit www.chdhu.org or call 631-451-4117 for more information.

Patchogue Artspace Gallery located at 20 Terry St. in Patchogue presents "Northwest Meets Southeast," an exhibition of photographs by 30 Long Island fine art photographers from March 16-30 with a reception on Saturday, March 22 from 7:00-9:30 PM.  A chance meeting of two fine art photographers, Aleta Cortes of Patchogue Artspace and Holly Gordon of Fotofoto Gallery in Huntington, like Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train, but no murder to be committed - just a killer photography exhibition, led to Aleta suggesting that the two groups of Long Island artists hang together in the Patchogue Artspace Gallery. Compared to North by Northwest, the coordinates of northwest and southeast draw us into this production with breathless anticipation and suspense. This collaboration of 30 Long Island artists is a visual feast to be followed by a reciprocal exhibit in Huntington later in this year. For more information contact Aleta Cortes at alicesun@citlink.net, 304-445-8717 or Holly Gordon at holly@hollygordonphotographer.com, 631-835-0697.
Patchogue Sketch Club
The Patchogue Sketch Club was created for the purpose of getting people together to discover the value of sketching. Sketching itself is its own art form; sketching helps artists "see" better and enhances drawing skills. Sketching is also a fun way of recording the world around us much more intimately than a camera.

For more information about upcoming sketch outings and gatherings visit their blog at
