The Patchogue Arts Council and Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Co. present
Linda Abadjian
January 27 - March 10, 2014
Reception: Sunday, February 2, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM

At the tender age of 13, Linda Abadjian emigrated from Lebanon to the United States to escape the bloody Lebanese Civil War. Although it has been some time since she has last been to Lebanon, her home country and the war have had a large impact on her artwork. Her mixed-media paintings depicting war-torn buildings and landscapes of Lebanon speak of new hope while examining the atrocities of war. These paintings represent a fragmented self of the artist that are enhanced by handwritten poetry that weaves through her complex layers of acrylic and ink. The poetry included in these works speaks of unveiling beauty and human resilience during times of devastation and destruction.

The exhibit is located on the Patchogue Arts Council Members Gallery Wall at Roast Coffee and Tea Trading Co, 41 E. Main St., Patchogue.

Draft Request for Proposals - DUE THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 24, 2014
The Patchogue Arts Council (PAC), as consultant to the Community Development Agency (CDA), is requesting proposals for a public mural at Furman Square in the Village of Patchogue on a south-facing exterior building wall located at 26 South Ocean Avenue.  The mural will be seen looking north toward the intersection of South Ocean Avenue and Main Street, long known as the Famous Four Corners.

The intersection has historical significance as the commercial center of Patchogue Village dating back to the 19th century.  The most iconic building was Swezey's Department Store on the northwest corner of the intersection.  It and other buildings that once were visible from the proposed mural site are well documented in historic photographs available online and in the history room of the Patchogue-Medford Library.

The artist is encouraged to present a proposal that is a personal interpretation of the vibrancy and architecture associated with the view described above circa 1900.

Patchogue Artspace Gallery located at 20 Terry St. in Patchogue presents "Northwest Meets Southeast," an exhibition of photographs by 30 Long Island fine art photographers from March 16-30 with a reception on Saturday, March 22 from 7:00-9:30 PM.  A chance meeting of two fine art photographers, Aleta Cortes of Patchogue Artspace, and Holly Gordon of Fotofoto Gallery in Huntington, like Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train, but no murder to be committed - just a killer photography exhibition, led to Aleta suggesting that the two groups of Long Island artists hang together in the Patchogue Artspace Gallery. Compared to North by Northwest, the coordinates of northwest and southeast draw us into this production with breathless anticipation and suspense. This collaboration of 30 Long Island artists is a visual feast to be followed by a reciprocal exhibit in Huntington later in this year. For more information contact Aleta Cortes at alicesun@citlink.net, 304-445-8717 or Holly Gordon at holly@hollygordonphotographer.com, 631-835-0697.
Patchogue Sketch Club
The Patchogue Sketch Club was created for the purpose of getting people together to discover the value of sketching. Sketching itself is its own art form; sketching helps artists "see" better and enhances drawing skills. Sketching is also a fun way of recording the world around us much more intimately than a camera.

For more information about upcoming sketch outings and gatherings visit their blog at
