Greetings!

On behalf of the Patchogue Arts Council (PAC), I would like to thank all of our members, volunteers, and supporters for your generous gifts of time and monetary and in-kind donations during the past year.  These contributions have made  it possible for us to keep the Patchogue Arts Gallery open with seven dynamite shows over the course of the year as well as several more  at our long-term satellite gallery at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts and our latest satellite at Roast Coffee and Tea Trading Company.

Since its inception in 2008, PAC has sponsored several "Walking Arts Tours" of local artists' work and mounted several major exhibitions at Briarcliffe College, including a Philip Jones Griffiths retrospective and two Biennial exhibitions of the work of nearly 100 accomplished artists across Long Island from Brooklyn and Queens to Orient and Montauk.  Last year we were able to bring the Long Island Opera Company to the Shorefront Park bandshell for an evening concert under the stars during the blue moon of August.

In addition to keeping our galleries going this year, our music committee introduced a downtown music festival, South By South Shore, thanks to the sponsorship of many downtown venues, as well as another Logjam in conjunction with the Blue Point Brewery.  We also held another raku firing, introducing many people to this ceramic art form, and began a Photography Club to complement our existing Sketch Club.  Everything  we have accomplished was only possible because of contributions from our loyal public.

In the coming year we plan to continue with our galleries and other events and programs as well as mount a third biennial exhibition.   As you know, the costs of these are high, especially the cost of mounting a biennial exhibition.  We are asking for year-end donations to help us achieve our goal and fulfill our mission to support, promote, and encourage the arts.

You can mail a check to our gallery located at 20 Terry St., Suite 116, Patchogue, or donate via PayPal undefined by clicking the donate button or visiting our Like us on Facebook page.  PAC is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation; all donations may be tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

We wish you a happy holiday season, and look forward to seeing you in an art-filled wonderful New Year!

Draft Request for Proposals
The Patchogue Arts Council (PAC), as consultant to the Community Development Agency (CDA), is requesting proposals for a public mural at Furman Square in the Village of Patchogue on a south-facing exterior building wall located at 26 South Ocean Avenue.  The mural will be seen looking north toward the intersection of South Ocean Avenue and Main Street, long known as the Famous Four Corners.

The intersection has historical significance as the commercial center of Patchogue Village dating back to the 19th century.  The most iconic building was Swezey's Department Store on the northwest corner of the intersection.  It and other buildings that once were visible from the proposed mural site are well documented in historic photographs available online and in the history room of the Patchogue-Medford Library.

The artist is encouraged to present a proposal that is a personal interpretation of the vibrancy and architecture associated with the view described above circa 1900.

Timeline

  • Artists will be notified by March 1, 2014.

PAMELA VARACEK
On Exhibit at the Patchogue Arts Council Members Gallery at Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Co.
December 1 - January 11, 2014

Painting is the process of the unconscious revealing itself for Pamela Varacek. Her art is very intuitive, having no preconceived idea or plan. Her paintings develop over the course of their creation, allowing the artist to truly express her whimsical imagination. A base layer of paint is spread across the entire canvas with the artist then adding more layers on top. Each layer of paint is a metamorphosis, revealing specific images the artist then brings to the forefront of the canvas. She aspires to form a deep connection with her audience through her work. Her work warrants an emotional response.

The Bridges To Justice workshop meets every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to Noon at the Patchogue Arts Gallery located at 20 Terry St. in Patchogue.  It was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Knapp-Swezey Foundation, Briarcliffe College, and the New York State Council on the Arts.   For more information, email literaryarts@patchoguearts.com.

Patchogue Sketch Club
The Patchogue Sketch Club was created for the purpose of getting people together to discover the value of sketching. Sketching itself is its own art form; sketching helps artists "see" better and enhances drawing skills. Sketching is also a fun way of recording the world around us much more intimately than a camera.

For more information about upcoming sketch outings and gatherings visit their blog at
