Greetings! Join us for a reception at the Patchogue Arts Gallery this Sunday, November 17 at 4:00 PM.
Alternate Perspectives of Landscape opens this Saturday at the Patchogue Arts Gallery and features three artists whose artwork derives from the traditional manner of landscape genre painting. From this traditional style, they then take the landscape and make it their own, offering their own uniquely personal visions on the world they inhabit.
Dawn Lee's artistic vision is defined by her passion for nature. Her prints, drawings, and paintings capture an abstracted landscape that emerges through her own personal exploration of the world around her. Dawn is interested in the relationship between the base and the visual realization of form.
Mel Pekarsky's perspective of landscape has developed much over his 40-year career. He made the transition from figural painting to pure desert landscapes gradually. His desert landscapes contemplate the relationship between man and the natural world. The desert, for Mel, signifies the convergence of form and meaning, of abstraction and representation.
Richard Vaux has been labeled many things over his 40-year career. A Formalist, Abstract Impressionist, and Romantic, his "Archetypal Landscapes" have been compared by Irma Jaffe of ARTNews to "moving into an atmospheric, suggestive space that serves as a metaphor for the world of nature." His abstraction of light and illumination contemplate the visible and invisible world around us.

Patchogue Arts Council and
PAMELA VARACEK
On display at the Patchogue Arts Council
Members Gallery in Roast
December 1 - January 11, 2014
Reception: Sunday, December 8,
from 2:00-4:00 PM
Painting is the process of the unconscious revealing itself for Pamela Varacek. Her art is very intuitive, having no preconceived idea or plan. Her paintings develop over the course of their creation, allowing the artist to truly express her whimsical imagination. A base layer of paint is spread across the entire canvas with the artist then adding more layers on top. Each layer of paint is a metamorphosis, revealing specific images the artist then brings to the forefront of the canvas. She aspires to form a deep connection with her audience through herwork. Her work warrants an emotional response.
