Why it Matters: With your financial support, the Patchogue Arts Council is able to continue its progressive programming in the visual, literary, and performance arts. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Patchogue Arts Council relies heavily on individual contributions to maintain its programming. Around the corner is the organization's most exciting year yet, and the funds raised at this event will help get 2013's programming listed below off to a running start!
- The 2013 Patchogue Arts Biennial, an exhibit of current and contemporary art, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 1st Armory Show (the Armory Show in 1913 was the first international exhibition of modern art in America)
- The first exciting South Shore Music Festival
- The continuation of our collaboration with Herstory Writers Workshop
- Another year filled with current, contemporary visual arts hosted at the Patchogue Arts Gallery and Lobby Arts Gallery
- And much, much more!
A solo exhibit by the evening's special guest, artist Robert Carter, is currently on display in the Patchogue Arts Gallery in an exhibit titled "Robert/Bob Carter: Both Sides Now." His works speak of the human spirit addressed through two distinct bodies of work, one of dignity, the other of whimsy. His work is represented in museums and collections throughout the country and has been published in numerous books and periodicals. Mr. Carter has instructed many as a professor of drawing, painting, and design at Nassau Community College. Throughout the 1980's and 1990's he visited Long Island schools, including most of those in the Patchogue-Medford School District, where he inspired numerous students. His work is still hanging in many of those schools.
