Greetings!
Patchogue Arts Council and Herstory Writers Workshop have joined forces to present three bilingual programs running from October 2012 - September 2013 that harness the power of memoir writing circles and book clubs to unite and inspire the Patchogue community. All programs will be held at the Patchogue Arts Council, 20 Terry St., Suite 116 in Patchogue. These programs are free to all participants, and have been made possible through the generous support of the Knapp-Swezey Foundation and Briarcliffe College.Connecting Through Our Stories
Program 1, Memoirs of Motherhood: Connecting Through Our Stories, is a women's writing circle dedicated to the stories that mothers have to contribute to the world. Designed to build bridges across the community, the program invites mothers of all ages to share their joys, sorrows, hopes, hardships, and dreams. In order to accommodate the varied schedules of busy mothers, meetings will be held on alternating Thursday mornings and Tuesday nights. Meeting 1: Thursday 10/4 from 10:00 AM - Noon; Meeting 2: Tuesday 10/9, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Sessions continue on alternating Tues./Thurs. and participants are welcome to attend as their schedules permits on a week-by-week basis.
Program 2, Bridges to Justice: Connecting Through Our Stories, is designed to bring together human rights activists, high school and college students, and community members with the goal of creating first-person testimony that might change a condition, a policy, or an attitude. Participants will be charting their own justice journeys together while exploring opportunities to have their stories heard in the larger movement for change. This is a bilingual, inter-generational writing circle, and all are welcome. Workshops to begin in October.
Program 3, Unheard Voices of Long Island's Living History, will serve as the Patchogue chapter of a Long Island-wide network of community based reading circles. Participants will read stories of immigrant realities, childhood, mothering, love, and illness written by the women you see when you pass them, but might never get to know. The program brings people of all ages together to talk about the experiences and desires that connect us, and barriers begin to dissolve. Monthly Monday evening meetings for this program will begin Monday, October 29th.
In addition to the new writing programs, the Patchogue Arts Council has packed this fall with plenty to do in the arts. Back by popular demand is the Raku Fundraiser on October 7th, up right now is the 5th Walking Arts Tour, and right around the corner is the 5th Patchogue Arts Festival in collaboration with the Patchogue Theatre. We hope to see you at one, or maybe even all of these events! - The Patchogue Arts Council Board of Trustees

| Patchogue Sketch Club |
The Patchogue Sketch Club was created for the purpose of getting people together to discover the value of sketching. Sketching itself is its own art form, sketching helps artists "see" better and enhances drawing skills. Sketching is also a fun way of recording the world around us much more intimately than a camera. For more information about upcoming sketch outings and gatherings visit their blog at
