Happy New Year Welcome back and happy new year to our staff, students and families! It's been a chilly start to 2014, but thankfully the temperatures are beginning to return to "normal." We are eager to enter into the second half of the school year. Now on to the five things you need to know this month. |
1. Middle School Students Help Raise nearly $10,000
32 students and staff members from Mayer Middle School decked with "Ask Me WHY I'm Bald" buttons nervously stepped up the stairs leading to the FHS Auditorium stage on Friday for the school's first-ever St. Baldrick's fundraiser and "Bald Games" head-shaving event. The cause? To show support to a fellow classmate recently-diagnosed with leukemia. The school raised nearly $10,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation which will be used toward childhood cancer research. What an amazing show of support from the students, staff and community! 2. District surveys parents and students on BYOD Initiative In December, the district sent out a survey to parents and students in grades 5-11 to gather feedback regarding the possibility of giving students in Middle School and High School the option to bring their own devices to school to use for the 2014-15 school year. The results from both surveys were presented at the Board of Education meeting on December 17. Click here for results from the survey.
