THE SEATTLE TIMES: SPECIAL REPORT
On December 1, The Seattle Times released part one of its Special Report, "Glamour Beasts: the Dark Side of Elephant Captivity." Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Michael J. Berens, part one, "Elephants are dying out in America's zoos", can be viewed here.
The Seattle Times reports it confronted a significant hurdle in examining elephant deaths in U.S. zoos because the industry doesn't comprehensively track elephant births and deaths. Read how the information for this report was obtained, here.
Part two of Beren's report, "Elephant havens face zoo-industry backlash", features PAWS. It was published on December 2, and can be viewed here.
