DRI Joins NYC OEM to Ring the NYSE Opening Bell in Recognition of September's National Preparedness Month!

Resized

This morning representatives from Office of Emergency Management (OEM) visited the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to ring The Opening Bell in recognition of September's National Preparedness Month and to honor the New York Stock Exchange for being awarded the OEM 2013 Private Sector Partner in Preparedness, and DRI was there!

Joining OEM Joseph F. Bruno, Commissioner of the New York City OEM, were DRI's President Al Berman, DRI Foundation Chair and NYSE Euronext  Managing Director AnneMarie Staley, and NYSE Euronext Vice President of Business Continuity Planning, North America Mitch Simon, along with other distinguished preparedness and continuity professionals.  To watch, click here!

National Preparedness Month encourages Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, schools, and communities. For more information on what New York is doing for the month, visit nyc.gov/oem.

Let's Get Excited about DRI2014: New Educational Program and Format!

We're hard at work on DRI2014 - which will be held May 18-21, 2014 in Atlanta, GA - and we're very excited about what is shaping up to be an innovative conference program for experienced industry professionals.

We're not ready to tell all just yet, but after meeting with a group of volunteers who attended DRI2013 and listening to their input, we think we've come up with a new twist on delivering the high-level interaction and education you seek.  More about that in the next few weeks, as we prepare to unveil the new conference program and format!

In the meantime, mark your calendars with the conference dates and also plan to be at Volunteer Day on May 17.  Registration for DRI2014 will open in mid-September, and this year we will be offering a special $1195 early bird registration price.  So, plan and budget accordingly, and we'll see you in Atlanta at the beautiful Hyatt Regency!

Are You Prepared for National Preparedness Month?

Join DRI and many other organizations in preparation for National Preparedness Month. FEMA is inviting you to join the National Preparedness Community. It's free to join for anyone wishing to be part of the community. Last year there were 21,000 members and FEMA would like to see that multiply, so sign up today! Once you're a member you will have access to resources including step-by-step emergency preparedness guides, public service announcements, informational materials, and regionally based preparedness discussions.

Thumb up While you are signing up for the National Preparedness Community, be sure to follow DRI on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. We will have tips, articles, and discussions relating to personal preparedness, IT disasters, and more happening throughout the month of September.

DRI is going to Costa Rica!

DRI will be traveling to Costa Rica this September in order to attend PwC's International Conference on Business Continuity.  The conference will be hosted at the Radisson Hostel in San Jose, Costa Rica September 30- October 1. Participants will discuss and explore global trends and case studies in business continuity.  The themes of the conference include: Communications during crisis, the transition from the BS25999 to the ISO 22301, Cloud Computing and its relationship to business continuity, and more.

If you plan on attending the event, be sure to sit in on President Al Berman's speech on trends in supply chain risk mitigation. Al is a former Global Practice Leader with PwC and will be using this opportunity to speak and reconnect with former colleagues. Director of International Operations, Chloe Demrovsky, will be applying the principles from Al's speech to the case study of the Rama Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh and how it is changing the way companies manage third party risks.
