DRI International Awards of Excellence: Nominate Now!

You are invited to participate in DRI International's Awards of Excellence Program and Awards Gala Dinner to honor individuals and corporations who are leaders and innovators within our profession. This event will recognize those who have achieved a level of excellence in the fields of continuity management, technology recovery (DR), and crisis management. The challenges associated with building a successful business continuity management program are many and we strongly believe that as a global continuity management training and certification organization, it is our duty to recognize and celebrate excellence. For a list of awards categories, click here. To nominate, click here. And here is a list of FAQs.
The awards will be presented as the culmination of the DRI International Conference at the Awards of Excellence Gala Dinner to be held at the Downtown Philadelphia Marriott Hotel in Philadelphia, on Thursday, June 6, 2013. Nominations are due by February 15, 2013.
To assure a fair and unbiased assessment of all applicants, we have established a process that allows for blind judging by senior industry professionals drawn from amongst the most highly respected organizations, to independently judge the nominees in each category.

Greetings!
When my daughter gets a 103 on a test (she always does the extra credit), it's a good thing. When the thermometer in my son's mouth registers the same number, not so good. And the thermometer, really, is just a formality. The glassy eyes alone give it away. Last Sunday, he went viral, and not in a funny YouTube video of cute kittens sort of way. So, it's been a tough week for the little man and for me.
Parents among you know the drill -- stuff the kid in the "big bed" and keep watch while the pint-sized visitor takes up 90 percent of a king-sized bed. Push Gatorade, pick up tissues, pry your sleep-deprived eyes open with toothpicks (Well, at least consider it after watching so much Looney Tunes while holding said sick child that you start to think that Bugs with his "What's up, Doc?" might have the right idea).
Finally, yesterday, his fever broke. It was about 3:30 a.m., and at long last I fell asleep. At 5:00 a.m., he woke me. Big smile. Bright eyes. "Mom, while you were sleeping, I got better!" While I was sleeping, yeah, right.
And I knew that you would understand the strange mix of chagrin and satisfaction I felt at that moment. He had no idea what I'd done -- the run to the store for emergency supplies, the on-the-fly outsourcing of Christmas present wrapping so that Santa would still come, the mitigation measures put in place to contain the germ and keep it from spreading. He had no clue. He just knew that his life went along pretty much according to plan: he was kept comfortable, had everything he needed, and even got everything on his Christmas list (including " proof that Bigfoot is real").
Sounds familiar, huh? Milestones are reached, goals are hit, products are launched, and magic is made while you are "sleeping" too. While you make sure everything runs smoothly and make adjustments when it doesn't, everyone else gets the job done, largely unaware that you may be moving heaven and earth to keep their world spinning according to plan.
So, with the New Year on the horizon, I'd like to thank you for all that you do even though I know you're not in this for the accolades and that, for you, thanks for a job well done is everyone else being able to do their jobs and do them well. Here's hoping 2013 is a good one for you.
