Find out what the Health Care Reform Act
will mean for your Business
Presenter: Rick Rebel
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), sometimes called the federal health care law, was signed into law on March 23, 2010. The bill is primarily focused on decreasing the number of uninsured Americans and reducing the overall costs of health care. There are many economic parts to the bill, including mandate taxes, subsidies and tax credits that can apply to both employers and individuals in order to increase the coverage rate. There are additional reforms aimed at improving healthcare outcomes and creating wellness incentives. The PPACA requires insurance companies to cover all applicants and offer the same rates regardless of pre-existing conditions or gender.
If you employ more than 50 employees, you'll need to understand the Employer Shared Responsibility Rules (including penalties), the minimum coverage rules and the affordability calculation. If you have less than 50 employees, there will still be a lot of new rules you'll need to understand and a additional information you'll need to share with your staff. If you are an individual insurance purchaser, you'll need to familiarize yourself with the new guidelines and plans offered the our health insurance exchange, called Cover Oregon, as all individual coverage will be guarantee issue in 2014.
