A huge thank you to our amazing music teacher, Candy Szalay, for working with the entire student body and choreographing so many incredible performances! 

A special thank you to our awesome Spring Music Festival committee, Heather Nelson, Jessica Wilkinson and Monique Dickinson. And many thank you's to the many volunteers who signed up to help set up, sell tickets, run food booths, and clean up after the festivities. All of the helping hands made the event successful and fun for all!

Run For Life

With the school year quickly drawing to a close, Run for Life will be holding an awards assembly for the amazing runners who get up extra early every morning and participate in running.  The award assembly will be held right after the bell on June 16th.  All runners who ran 75+ miles during the school year will receive an award.  A separate acknowledgment for Ms. Marshak's class will be held.

Thanks to all of the amazing Loma Portal runners!!!  Also, please make note that we have seen quite a few kids at school early in the morning without any supervision, please make sure not to drop off your child unless someone from Run for Life or a teacher is present on the playground.
 
Join us for an Ice Cream FUNdraiser!

Bring all your friends, neighbors, your entire family and this flyer to Hammond's Gourmet Ice Cream on Thursday, June 16th any time between 12 noon and 10pm, and Hammond's will donate 50% of all proceeds to Loma Portal Foundation.

Hammond's recently opened at 3740 Sports Arena Blvd, Suite 6 (behind Phil's BBQ). They boast over 300 flavors - YUM! You'll need to go back to try them all

LOMA PORTAL RECYCLES
 
Thanks to your recycling efforts, Loma Portal Elementary has already raised more than $800 in recycling redemptions this school year.  With just one more Thursday dropoff before the end of the school year, let's try to make it an even $1000.  Please bring ALL of your empty CRV beverage containers to school THIS THURSDAY 12:20pm-12:50pm.  The recycling binsas they are every Thursday, will be set up in front of the school alongside the Dolphin Donation Station.  Every CRV plastic bottle, CRV aluminum can and CRV glass bottle helps raise money to fund programs for our students. Thanks in advance!

Last Day of School for Students

Last day of school for students is Tuesday, June 21st.  Students will be dismissed at 12:35 pm.  Please plan to pick up your child on time from school.
Klassic Kids Summer Camp

Klassic Kids Summer Camp opens on Wednesday June 22nd and will run through Friday, August 26th. Children can be dropped off as early as 6:30AM to and picked up as late as 6:00PM, Monday through Friday.  The camp is for students from ages 4 years 9 months  up to age 12. The cost is 27.00 a day and students will enjoy themed events, literacy time and weekly field trips. The camp is filling up fast so please make your choices soon. Part Time and Full Time are currently available. Book Swap2 Used Book Sale! 

Stock up on your child's summer reading at Loma Portal's used book sale. Thursday, June 16, 2016, right after school on the front lawn. All proceeds will directly benefit our library program.

Now is the time to take an active role in your child's educational experience with opportunities for the 2016-2017 school year. Volunteering with the Loma Portal Foundation is a great way to meet other parents and learn about our school. It takes all of us to continue the great programs, events and services that make Loma Portal special.

Annual Military Appreciation Fair Aug. 13

The district's Office of Children and Youth in Transition will be holding its Annual Military Appreciation Fair on Saturday, August 13, 2016, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at Serra High School.
The event is open to all military connected students and their families living within San Diego Unified boundaries.  Military families new to San Diego will be able to enroll in San Diego Unified schools at this event.

Additional Fair events include a complimentary BBQ lunch, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.; resources from San Diego Unified and community agencies to assist the needs of military families; activities; games and an opportunity drawing.

3 wonderful years!
2. How long have you been teaching?
This is my 12th year!
3. What is your favorite thing about our school?
The fabulous students, the wonderful families and the staff that I work with each day!
4. What is something funny a student has said to you? 
My first year teaching kindergarten the cutest little boy looked up at me with bright inquisitive eyes and asked, "Teacher, do you have a job?" The wonder of kindergarten!
5. Where were you born and raised? 
Sin city- Las Vegas
6. What are your hobbies?
Traveling, learning to play the ukulele, reading, and hiking.
7. What are some items on your 'bucket list?'
I would like to visit every National Park as well as travel to each continent. I would also like to go on a hot air balloon ride someday.
