Ecological Schoolyard for Loma Portal

Things are moving forward on the Ecological Schoolyard (ESY) for Loma Portal! You should have received a survey from your child's class last week. We need input from all parents, teachers, and non-teaching staff before we move into the design phase in March. Please take a moment to fill out the survey form and send it back to school with your child or fill out the survey online by February 3rd. Online survey can be found HERE.

Please join us on Wednesday, February 12th from 5:30-6:30pm in the Loma Portal auditorium for our Loma Portal input session! We want your ideas!

About the Ecological Schoolyard for Loma Portal

The goal is to transform the barren asphalt school yard into a ecologically healthy and stimulating outdoor play and learning environment for the students, teachers and the community. Located directly in the run off path between Point Loma and the San Diego Bay, this school yard holds great ecological significance for the area. It is also one of the oldest schools in San Diego, celebrating it's centennial in October 2014.

Our goal is to have first project built by October 2014 in honor of the centennial. We need your help to make it happen!

This is a participatory design and build process. By engaging community organizations, students, teachers, parents, etc, we hope to create a successful model for future schools in San Diego. So far we have Principle Gerde, the PTA, Parent Foundation, the San Diego Childhood Obesity Initiative several local landscape architects, contractors, artists and master gardeners on board to guide and help with the process. We will need help in ALL areas and anyone can participate!

If you are interested in this project and want to help out or just stay up to date, please email Ilisa Goldman at igoldman@sandiego.gov.

Learn about Snapchat, Instagram, KiK, Facebook, Ask.FM, Whisper and more. Parents and guardians of kids in 3-12th grade are invited to attend this important community event at the PLNU Liberty Station Conference Center. For more information click HERE.
