SaludArte Celebrates Building a Healthy Boyle Heights with the Arts

On Saturday, April 26, residents of Boyle Heights and surrounding communities will have an opportunity to see, first hand, how cultural arts and community health go hand-in-hand at Hollenbeck Park.  Organized by ACTA and Building Healthy Communities Boyle Heights, a community collaborative working to improve community health and support local artists through an initiative sponsored and supported by The California Endowment (TCE), SaludArte is the culminating celebration of a project that, for the last three years, has sought to identify and acknowledge cultural assets, or "cultural treasures" in Boyle Heights.

ACTA's Roundtable Series Returns with Grassroots Fundraising Intensive

ACTA's Roundtable Series returns to the San Francisco Bay Area with Grassroots Fundraising, an intensive workshop series and peer learning circle led by nonprofit consultant Jerry Yoshitomi and ACTA staff. Over the course of five months, participants will be coached in the creation and launch of a fundraising campaign to raise at least $5,000. Join us on May 17 in San Francisco or May 18 in Oakland to learn more about this series and how to apply for this exciting opportunity.

The term "community-based arts" can often mask the rigor, discipline, and depth of study that these expressions require.  It is often the strength of the collective, working together, that keeps the art forms alive and regenerative.  In the case of these two Living Cultures projects, the regeneration is both within the cultural expression itself and with the choices the practitioners make.
