Prayer Petitions

Each Wednesday morning the synod staff meets for devotions and prays for the congregations and people of our synod. You are invited to join us.

Editor's Note: In the past we have listed the prayer names using the last name of active & retired rostered leaders. Unfortunately an unintended side effect has been that churches with more than one pastor are included more often, and churches without a rostered pastor or worship leader may have been left off the rotation. A new rotation has begun, and NE MN Synod congregations, Pastors and other rostered leaders will be listed separately, so each church and pastor/rostered leader will be included once during the rotation.
  • St. Marks in Palo, Aurora
  • Evangelical, Babbitt
  • Mr. Nathan Anderson, SAM
  • Pastor Judy Anderson-Bauer
  • Pastor Loren Anderson-Bauer
  • Ms. Gloria Anderson-Hegg, SAM
Bishop Aitken's Reflections

In this 10th anniversary year of the publication of "Evangelical Lutheran Worship," you are invited to attend an event focusing on Lutheran worship in our current context.

Pastors, musicians, lay leaders, and worship committees: whether you have extensive experience with ELW, are exploring it for the first time, or use other materials for your community's worship, you will find a place at these gatherings.

We will open anew the gifts of God at the strong center of worship in word and sacrament. We will explore how to open more widely the doors that welcome the world to these gifts and the doors that send us with these gifts into God's beloved and needy world.

Events will include:
  • Introduction - for those engaging ELW for the first time.
  • Deeper Exploration - for those who know the treasures well, but long for renewed energy or a deeper understanding.
  • Newer Resources - for those interested in the many print and online resources in the ELW family that have been produced since 2006.
  • Foundations - for those who want to connect with the core principles of worship in the ELCA while engaging the culture, gifts, and practices of a local community.
  • Synodical Leadership - for those who want to offer ELW introductions and/or refreshers in their synod.
  • plus worship, singing, networking, creative brain-sailing, and more.
The locations for this event will be:
  • October 7-8, 2016 Bethany Lutheran Church, Cherry Hillis Village, CO
  • October 14-15, 2016 Zumbro Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN
  • November 4-5, 2016 Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale, PA

Additional Reflections From The Bishop

Pr. John Dietz was recently named candidate of choice by a congregation in our synod. That information has been shared publicly in the congregation in anticipation of the congregational vote to call him. We are now sharing that with you, even as this discernment process unfolds.

John is grateful for having had the experience of working on synod staff, but he is also looking forward to a return to Word and Sacrament ministry in the parish. He and his wife Ashley and daughter Livia are excited for this new chapter in their life.

2016 Bishop's Fall Theological Conference

All Rostered Leaders (spouses are welcome to attend as well) are urged to attend the Fall Theological Conference held September 25-27, 2016 at Ruttger's Sugar Lake Lodge near Grand Rapids. This annual event is rich in conversation, renewed encouragement, meaningful worship and fellowship as well as deep and practical theological education.

This year's theme is a timely one; "Faith and Firearms" presented by Dr. Michael Chan, Assistant Old Testament Professor at Luther Seminary. Dr. Chan's presentation, along with our conversation, will assist leaders in practical and biblical ways for listening and engaging our people in difficult conversations regarding faith, firearms, politics, etc.

Green Tip of the Week

According to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), the national trade association of U.S. wind energy industry, with over 900 member companies, the U.S. wind industry has attracted $128 billion in new wind project investment over the past ten years.  Wind developers pay a growing total of $222 million a year in land lease payments to U.S. farmers, ranches, and other rural landowners.  Helping to make America both cleaner and stronger, wind represents 41 percent of all new capacity to come online in 2015, ahead of solar (28.5 percent) and natural gas (28.1 percent).
