Churches' Week of Action on Food

What Is It?
Churches' Week of Action on Food is an opportunity for Christians all over the world to act and speak out together on food-justice issues. Together, we can raise awareness about food production and distribution systems, examine our own food consumption, call for policy changes that will ensure the right to food for everyone and raise money to support programs that help fight hunger. Our faith calls us to action, and through ELCA World Hunger, we commit to pursuing a world of justice where all are fed.

Save the date

Mark your calendar for the week of Oct. 11-18 as we join together for prayer, action and support around food justice. Special dates to consider observing:
*             Oct. 13: International Day for Disaster Reduction
*             Oct. 15: International Day of Rural Women
*             Oct. 16: World Food Day
*             Oct. 17: International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

How do I get involved?

ELCA World Hunger has a variety of ways you can get involved. Activate your congregation in urging Congress to support the Global Food Security Act of 2015. Consider fasting on World Food Day (Oct. 16) and pray for those who go hungry each day. Visit the ELCA World Hunger blog to find resources you can use with children, youth and adults in your congregation to learn more about faith, food, and caring for God's world. Coordinate a food drive in your congregation with the help of ELCA World Hunger's Road Map to Food Drives. Become informed through the Zero Hunger Challenge. Take a special offering on Sunday, Oct. 18, and support our commitment to fighting hunger in nearly 60 countries, including the United States.
