Crosses of all shapes and sizes are showing up at the synod office to pass on to participants at this year's Middle School Gathering! We also encourage congregation members to share a personal note on what it means to you that you are a child of God. What difference does your identity as achild of God make in your daily life? How does it change how you approach life - family, work, activities, free time, conflicts, relationships, celebrations - everything! These are good questions for us to ask ourselves every day...and a gift to middle school youth as they find their footing in the world! More information on the crosses and notes, including templates you might use for the notes, can be found at www.nemnsynod.org/MSG.

Rozella White, ELCA Program Director for Young Adults
You have come to realize that the culture is shifting. Church is not as important in peoples' lives as it once was. You are also probably convinced that your congregation's approach to ministry with children, youth and families needs to change. Maybe you even have some ideas! This session will help you frame a path towards change in your congregation. We will help one another identify and plan the steps we need to take to create the change we need to see in our congregations' ministry with children, youth and families.

Life-Long Learning Classes at Luther Seminary

December 1-3, 2014 Luther Seminary, St. Paul Cost: $100
Pastoral Care: Sharing in the Healing Ministry of the Church with by Helen Hanson, retired faculty U of MN School of Nursing and pastoral care minister. Our call is to share Christ's healing with our brothers and sisters who are ill, injured, in crisis, grieving, dying, lonely or separated from the faith community by infirmity. In this workshop, we will unwrap our unique gifts for this ministry and address its special challenges. We will learn how to prepare for and follow up intentionally with visits; how to engage helpfully in difficult situations; how to deepen prayers of intercession and acts of healing; and how to collaborate companionably with clergy, family members and others in pastoral support. Very importantly, we will identify strategies for self-care-how to recognize our personal limits, maintain boundaries and when to ask for help. We will work through some of the problems you face and celebrate your personal experiences of faithful care for God's children.
An Invitation to the Psalms with Karl Jacobson. This class will offer an introduction to reading the Psalms with attention to the poetry, different types and the theology of the Book of Psalms. We will cover the basics of how to read, understand, and apply the psalms in our daily lives.
