The Synod Assembly takes place at Zion Lutheran Church, 2901 South Highway 169 in Grand Rapids. Click here for directions.
The Saturday evening banquet will be held at the TimberLake Lodge in Grand Rapids. Click here for directions. TimberLake is approximately .75 mile north of Zion on Highway 169. |
Voting Member Orientation
Voting Member Orientation is at 5 pm Friday evening (see proposed agenda). This is not just for those attending their first Assembly. It's a great opportunity to become acquainted with Parliamentary Procedure, Committee of the Whole, Elections and other elements of the Assembly.

Registration
Assembly registration begins at 3 pm at Zion Lutheran Church. If you haven't signed up for the Run/Walk, you may do that at the same time! Quilts and Marketplace items can be dropped off at Zion as well. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the Camp Cafe!

Worship
The Assembly begins and ends with worship. Friday evening worship begins at 6 pm in the sanctuary at Zion. Director for Evangelical Mission and Assistant to the Bishop, Pastor Scott Jacob, is preaching.

First Plenary Session
This session begins at 7:15 pm in the Christian Life Center. Business includes the report of the nominating committee, ballot #1, and the report of the Bishop.

First Annual Run/Walk for the Camps
 This first annual Run/Walk takes place Saturday morning at 6:30 am. The event begins and ends at Zion Lutheran. Registration/Flyer
Quilt Auction & Marketplace Quilts and Marketplace items may be  dropped off in the narthex at Zion during registration. Be sure to invite those not attending the Assembly to stop by and place a bid. All proceeds go to ELCA World Hunger Appeal!

Second & Third Plenary Sessions
Keynote presenter Dr. Winston Persaud will speak, the Churchwide Report from Mikka McCracken will be heard, as will as a report from our Synod Coordinator of Youth Ministry, Catherine Anderson. See the Proposed Agenda for specifics of the business addressed during these sessions. Choir will practice over lunch.

Coffee and Conversations
This is an opportunity for you to have a casual conversation with our Synod Assembly presenters. Or you may wish to attend one of two Practice Discipleship workshops. The Camp Cafe and Bookstore will be open, as will the Marketplace. Bid on a quilt or take a little "down" time before the evening banquet.

Banquet
Our banquet will be at TimberLake Lodge beginning at 6 pm. Special anniversaries will be recognized. We will hear from former presiding bishop, the Rev. Herbert Chilstrom. Social time at TimberLake will take place following.

Fourth Plenary Session
Beginning at 9 am, this closing session includes budget action, reports on the Malaria Campaign, Flood Recovery Update, Report from the Synod Council, Servant of Christ Award and Holy Cow! Award

Sunday Worship
Worship with the congregation at Zion begins at 10:30 am. This service will include Holy Communion, anointing and sending, and healing stations. Bishop Aitken will preach Sunday morning. His written sermon and a video will be available on the synod website Monday, April 22. If you would like a DVD sent to you, call the synod office.
