What We Do
Since 2008, Clothes To Kids of Denver (CTKD) has provided more than 25,000 school wardrobes to students in need throughout the Denver Metro area.

Why is an appropriate wardrobe so important?

For children and teens, clothing is more than a basic need -- it's key to their success in school. When students have quality clothing that helps them feel confident, they are more likely to attend school with the self-esteem needed to succeed academically.

At CTKD, students shop in a store-like environment with the help of staff and volunteers who are dedicated to providing a high level of personalized service. Students are invited to shop twice per year.

Recently, CTKD expanded its service area to include ten Denver Metro counties. That expansion means that 190,000 students are now eligible to shop at CTKD.

How Much Does a Wardrobe Cost?

It costs CTKD about $50 to furnish a wardrobe for one child.

Help us ensure we have enough wardrobes to supply this fall's students with the clothes they need to succeed.

Celebrating 25,000 Wardrobes to Kids!Wardrobe

Thanks to the generosity and hard work of donors and volunteers over the years, we've hit an amazing milestone: This past October, we surpassed 25,000 wardrobes provided to school children in the Denver Metro area since we first opened our doors in 2008.

Many things have changed since we got our start seven years ago. Our service area has expanded to the entire Denver Metro area, for example. The size of the population in our service area -- as well as the number of children who qualified for wardrobes -- has also grown dramatically. The demand for our services seems to be increasing exponentially all the time. For instance, in 2014 we gave away 4,500 wardrobes by the end of the year. But as of October of this year, we've given out more than 5,600 wardrobes. Clearly, we're headed for a record-breaking year!

That's why your continued support is so important to us. Whether you can donate your time, your money, or clothing items, you can help us make a difference in the lives of children.

Here are the items we're most in need of:
  • New packages of socks (kid's size small to adult)
  • New packages of underwear (kid's size 4T to adult)
  • New and gently used shoes (kid's size 8 - adult)
  • Pants for elementary school age kids (sizes 5-20)
  • Pants and shorts for high-school age boys (especially waist size 27-38)
  • T-shirts and lightweight long-sleeve shirts for boys and girls (especially sizes M-XL)
  • School uniform clothing for boys and girls: solid color polo shirts and khaki, navy and black pants
  • Warm winter coats (kid's size small to adult)

We're able to take your donations 24/7 with the outdoor collection bin just outside the store.

Student Ambassador:          Lilia ScudamoreLilia

Middle-school student Lilia Scudamore is proof positive that it's never too soon to begin making a difference in your community.

Lilia, who attends the Denver School of the Arts, has taken on the role of student ambassador for Clothes To Kids of Denver, speaking at events and collecting clothing on our behalf.

On October 25, for instance, Lilia spoke to two classes of kids enrolled in the JD Williams Cotillion Program held at the Brown Palace. The program offered to partner with Lilia, invited her to present to the kids, and asked the participants to bring socks and underwear to donate to Clothes To Kids of Denver.

Lilia hasn't stopped there. She has sought donations from friends and family, and is planning another large collection at her upcoming bat mitzvah. So far, she has collected more than 1,150 pairs of new socks and underwear, as well as some shoes and gently used clothing.

As an articulate and inspiring young woman, Lilia has encouraged others to follow in her steps by supporting Clothes To Kids of Denver. For instance, both the founder
and director of the JD Williams Cotillion were so impressed by her that they expressed interest in continuing this collaboration with us in the future. Thanks to Lilia's efforts, we are looking forward to building on the strong foundation that she's helped prepare for us.

Well done, Lilia Scudamore! You're an amazing young woman, and an example for all of us.

Volunteer Spotlight:          Ability SpecialistsVolunteer

It takes a lot of hard work to sort clothing and stock our shelves each day. That's why we're so grateful to organizations like Ability Specialists that support Clothes To Kids of Denver with volunteer help.

Each Wednesday morning for the past four years, a group of adults with cognitive disabilities from Ability Specialists comes to volunteer in our store. Working with Program Manager Robin Rose, they sort, fold and hang clothing, and they pitch in with whatever else needs to be done.

They work very hard and are a huge help to us!
Thank you to Ability Specialists!
