HAPPENINGS
The College and Career Center wishes you a Happy Holiday!  We hope you enjoy your break...There are things you can do over break to help you prepare for some upcoming events...
  •  Over the break, start thinking about the industry you would enjoy most learning about at our upcoming MENTOR BREAKFAST!  You can earn 3 hours of job shadowing toward your Pathway Cord requirement.
  • Pathway Cords-Begin filling out the Pathway Cord Portfolio in Naviance under the "About Me" tab, working on the PowerPoint requirement, completing your resume under the "Interesting Things About Me" tab and complete your job shadowing hours.
  • Apply to Community College!  Check out www.cccapply.org and start your application. It's easy and many community college applications are already open.
MENTOR BREAKFAST
We are happy to announce our Annual Mentor Breakfast, Thursday, March 3rd @ 7:30-10am in the gym.  If you filled out the Mentor Breakfast interest form at Registration you can expect an official invitation to REGISTER/SIGN-UP for the event in the College and Career Center.  You must register for a specific industry to hold your spot.  The event is first come, first serve.  Our keynote speaker will be the Esteemed Mayor of Long Beach, Robert Garcia.  You won't want to miss this event!  The Mentor Breakfast will count or 3 hours of Job Shadowing for the Pathway Cord requirement.

PATHWAY CORDS
Congratulations to those seniors who are eligible to graduate with a Pathway Cord.  Be on the look out for a "Pathway Cord Reminder" informing you of what you must do to complete all the requirements for Pathway Cord.  Note:  The Pathway Cord Portfolio will be in digital format this year under the "About Me" tab, "Surveys to Take," in Naviance In addition, you can complete the resume under the "Interesting Things About Me" tab as well as the PowerPoint presentation and Job Shadowing Debriefing Form. 
ROTARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH
We are pleased to announce that Kira Simmons has been selected as our December Rotary Student of the Month. She is currently in the ROP Sports Medicine class with John Hansen where she is doing a great job. Kira is responsible, kind and works well with others.

'TIS THE SEASON FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGE
It's never too early to start on your postsecondary plans!  Didn't get into the school of your choice?  You can still transfer!  The College and Career Center has plenty of Community College events planned so you can continue your future plans.
Community College Info Night & Community College Week

Senior Preview

Days 

Freshman Priority Registration
Community College Info Night will take place on 2/9 @ 6-8pm in the PAC.  Several community colleges reps will be present to answer questions at the mini college fair from 6-7pm, followed by the keynote speaker, Denia Guillen of Orange Coast College (OCC) @ 7pm.
 
Community College Week will take place on 2/22-2/26 throughout the school day.  Sign up through Naviance.
Senior Preview Days:
  • 2/25-Golden West College
  • 3/8-Orange Coast College
Students will get a chance to visit a community college campus specifically designed with them in mind with special workshops, opportunities to see majors in action and even win prizes!
 
Students will be able to sign up in the College and Career Center soon.  Open to the first 50 students....First Come, First Serve.

Freshman Priority Registration testing for placement into community college Math and English will take place 3/24 @ 2:30-6pm in Room 153/154. 
 
Students will have an opportunity to attend English and Math Prep Class on campus, 3/14-3/18, to help prepare them for this important Community College Placement Test.
A Math Pre-test will be required for entrance into the Math Placement Exam.

 
COLLEGE PLANNING CALENDAR FOR SENIORS
DECEMBER CHECKLIST!!!
  • Continue working on essays/applications for private colleges and out of state colleges. Begin to organize your regular decision applications which will be due in January and February.
  • Check email (and spam folder) for important emails
  • Complete all testing (SAT/ACT); this is the last test date for some colleges
