THE COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER
HAPPENINGS
The College and Career Center, under the guidance of Shelley Riekenberg, has launched its lunchtime speaker series "Career Talks" which takes place on Tuesdays @ lunch in Room 500.
 
FREE pizza for the first 40 students that sign up via Naviance for the next Career Talk Tuesday featuring a Westminster Sheriff!  Our first one was Chase bank speaking on Careers in Finance...Upcoming Career Talks include a Sheriff, Cosmetologist, an Attorney and much more to come!  Sign up through Naviance!
 
Cookies with the College and Career Center
will be continued on through the end of November on Thursdays (closed Thanksgiving.) Parents come @ 11am and students come at lunch where warm cookies and great advice are awaiting them.  Take advantage of this valuable opportunity. CSU and UC Application Deadline November 30th!

SPOTLIGHT ON CAREER TECH EDUCATION
ROP Emergency Medical Responder and ROP Fire Technology Instructor-Steve Erickson
Mr. Erickson has been married 31 years to Paul and has 3 boys.  He worked for the Garden Grove Fire department for 33 years.  He is a State Certified Firefight, EMT, holds an AA in Fire Science, has a Paramedic License and a National and State certificate in fire investigation.  He has also coached baseball and football and won 4 Gold Medals from the Fire Department Olympics.  Welcome, Mr. Erickson!

COLLEGE PLANNING CALENDAR FOR SENIORS
NOVEMBER CHECKLIST!!!
  • Online submissions opens for Ucs on Nov. 1st and closes on Nov. 30th.  Complete UC application early.  Do not wait until end of Nov, and keep a hard copy of your application!
  • Continue working on all applications/essays.
  • Register for CSS profile if any of the colleges you are applying to require it.
  • Financial Aid forms to parents; the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will be available this month but cannot be completed before January 1st.  Create Pin# (ID#), for student and parent.
  • Find out if you might qualify for scholarships at the schools you'll be applying to.  Research mnerit scholarships on college websites and check in with the College and Career Center.
  • Send SAT or ACT test scores to all schools to which you are applying that need them.
  • Remember the CSU application deadline is also Nov. 30th.
  • Finalize and send any early decision or early action application that is due this month.  It's a good idea to have a parent, teacher, counselor, or other adult review the application before it's submitted.
