THE COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER WANTS TO GIVE YOU A WARM WELCOME BACK
There's lots of new and exciting things coming up in the College and Career Center.  Here's just a few:
Cookies with the College and Career Center-
Beginning Thursdays in October @ lunch, come and ask our College and Career Counselor about college applications, Naviance or anything else on your mind
College Visits-Check Naviance for frequent updates about schools visiting Los Al
Community Service, Job Openings, On and Off Campus events will continue to be updated in the College and Career Center E-Newsletter 
PSAT INFO
Mark your calendars for OCTOBER 14th...there will be a special bell schedule.  All 10th graders will be taking the PSAT for a suggested donation of $22.  Students from other grades can also take it for a $22 fee.  Fees are due in ASB by October 2nd.  
PRESENTATION SCHEDULES 
Counselors will be meeting with seniors during English classes on 9/14 and 9/15 for important reminders and deadlines.  Senior appointments with counselors are September through October.  They will also be introduced to Naviance and the college application process.  
EMPLOYMENT

If you have a work permit that expired in the summer, come by for a quick renewal.  A Work Permit is needed and should have employer and parent signature and student SSN and can be processed in the Career Center.  Work permits require renewal every school term.  Here are some current job openings.  

COLLEGE VISITS
Check Naviance for an updated list of scheduled College Visits.  Students, PLEASE SIGN UP FOR REMIND IN THE CAREER CENTER BEFORE YOUR COLLEGE VISIT. In order to save time you will be receiving a text message via Remind instead of a call slip. YOU MUST check in with your teacher beforehand.

ROTARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH
Brooke Everett is our September Rotary Student of the Month!  Brooke is currently enrolled in ROP Video Production/Griffin News. Her teacher Mr. Tomlinson says she is doing an excellent job. This year she is serving as the president of Griffin News.   
Brooke will be recognized at the Rotary meeting next Tuesday, September 15TH.

COLLEGE PLANNING CALENDAR FOR SENIORS
SEPTEMBER:

Register for the ACT and/orSAT if you didn't take it as a junior or you aren't satisfied with your previous score.
Do a resume
Familiarize yourself with the information college applications require and start compiling it.

Begin your first draft of your essay.

Create a checklist and calendar to chart your test scores, college application deadlines, financial aid forms and deadlines and supplemental material deadlines.

Ask teachers/counselors for letters of recommendation.

Attend Senior Parent Night, 9/21.

CSU applications open Oct 1st.
Work on your brag sheet (Naviance under the "About Me section."

UC Applications open August 1st!  Start working on it NOW!

Review finances and attend financial aid workshops.

Attend College Visits in the College and Career Center.

Create college email accounts for all of the colleges you apply to.

Attend your Senior Conference with your Counselor to review your transcript for accuracy and make certain you are on track to graduate.  If your final college list is not yet finalized, narrow down your list and decide what are your safe/target/reach schools.
