Community College Info
February has been a busy month for students on the community college track.
We kicked off Community College Month with Community College Info Night, followed by Community College Week where students could ask in depth questions to specific colleges during the school day.  We had a Math Pre-Placement test and English and Math Prep Classes.  The actual placement test will take place March 16th @ 2:30pm in Room 153/154.  We are currently full but a waitlist has been started.  We also participated in Senior Preview Days at OCC & Golden West.

REMINDER!!!!!-You must apply to Golden West to be entered into the placement test regardless of whether you plan on attending there or not.

Many students ask us what is the process for getting in to community college and receiving priority registration.  Here are the steps most community colleges follow:
  1. Apply to as many community college as you would like.  Don't miss the deadline!
  2. Take the assessment/placement test to determine your Math and English Levels If you scored "college ready" on the EAP you are exempt from this test.  It is your responsibility to contact the college to make this happen.
  3. Orientation (online or in person)
  4. Meet with a counselor to develop a SEP-Student Educational Plan
  5. REGISTRATION!!! You made it!
What You Need to Know:  Financial Aid
FAFSA-due June 30th...
It pays to file early!  No matter what your individual state or school filing deadline, when it comes to your FAFSA, the sooner you file after January 1st each year (the date that the federal processor begins accepting applications), the better! Many types of financial aid (particularly need-based aid, including grants (Cal Grant), loans and work-study programs) are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, the sooner your FAFSA is fully processed and released to your school's financial aid administrators, the better your chances of receiving consideration for the maximum amount of financial aid for which you may be eligible.

CAL GRANT
The deadline to apply for the Cal Grant was March 2nd.  Track your Cal Grant Award at Webgrants4Students.  You may qualify for the Middle Income Scholarship and should hear something in the summer if you do.
SAT Prep Class
Thank you to everyone who signed up for the SAT Prep Class beginning March 14th and leading up to the May 2nd SAT test.  You still have time to submit the $90 donation to cover the cost of the facilities and instructor.  All Checks should be made out to LAEF-Los Alamitos Education Foundation.  Please try to attend all sessions to get the maximum benefit out of the class.
