Rehearsals Intensify for Spring Concert: Stand Together
Working together during an all-day retreat builds personal bonds and fine-tunes the concert repertoire
Enthusiastically preparing for our Spring concert, Stand Together, GNHCC's singers and artistic team gathered at St. John Lutheran Church in Meriden on Saturday, April 16th for an all-day retreat focusing on this semester's exciting and varied repertoire.
 The music for this concert
comes from many cultures including, Africa, Scandinavia, China, Canada, Australia, and South America. Sourced from around the globe, this concert's selections present some formidable challenges for the chorus, ranging from an array of different languages to interesting and varied rhythmic patterns.
The all-day retreat offers an opportunity for focused, detailed work on this amazing music. Be sure to be in the audience for Stand Together on June 5th to hear the fruits of the singers' labors.

You Could Win This Beautiful Quilt
Every spring, a talented group of GNHCC members combine their quilting skills to create a stunning, handcrafted quilt. Each year the pattern and colors vary, and every year it seems more and more beautiful.
This year's pattern, called Hunter's Star, is both gorgeous and dramatic. It is made with a wonderful collage of 8 colors, including in lovely pastel shades, braided together to make an incredible grouping of stars.
One-of-a-kind, handcrafted quilts are often valued well above a thousand dollars. The GNHCC Quilters have modestly valued this queen-sized quilt at $875 for the raffle to be held on June 9th. You could be the lucky winner and you don't even need to be present at the drawing to win!
Raffle tickets are just $1.00 each and may be purchased from any GNHCC member - or during intermission at our June 5th concert. Proceeds help support the music and mission of Greater New Haven Community Chorus.

GNHCC - Building Community...
"Building Community one Note at a Time" isn't just about the camaraderie shared in rehearsals and performances. Whenever possible, GNHCC members eagerly support other organizations in the community.
ELIJAH
The choral community in Connecticut is active and very vibrant - audiences are both energetic and appreciative. Yet, having the support of fellow singers in the audience is extra special. And for singers, it is a double treat to have the opportunity to support a fellow choir by actually be in the audience and to indulge in the joy of choral music.
So on Thursday, April 14th, a large group of GNHCC members traveled to Hartford's Bushnell Theatre to experience Mendelssohn's epic oratorio, Elijah.
The performance brought together performers from the Hartford Symphony, the Hartford Chorale, and the Primi Voci Choir. It was an extraordinary concert and GNHCC was thrilled to support our fellow musicians and choristers by attending this memorable performance.
GNHCC Artistic Director, Noah Blocker-Glynn, GNHCC Board President, Kathy McManus, Susan Conover and Nathan Fuhrman were extremely moved by their experience on Sunday, April 17th. The four from GNHCC joined with others from the Hartt School Community Division to sing with Noteworthy Voices at a fundraiser in Hartford.
Noteworthy Voices is a unique, forgetful-friendly choir founded by Pamela Atwood, director of Dementia Care Services, part of Hebrew Health Care in West Hartford.
The first of its kind in Connecticut, Noteworthy Voices was formed as part of Hebrew Health Care's Music and Memory program which utilizes the power of music to engage and awaken the spirit of Alzheimer's patients and others with dementia-related illnesses.
Not only did the performance receive a standing ovation from the large audience at the fundraiser, many of the
Noteworthy Voices'
singers were so thrilled, they said that it was the "time of their lives".
GNHCC Supports IRIS
As part of its support of the greater community, GNHCC is gratified to be supporting the efforts of IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services) and their mission to enable refugees and other displaced people to establish new lives, regain hope, and contribute to the vitality of Connecticut's communities. Chorus members are currently collecting items such as cooking utensils and pots, serving dishes, drinking glasses, umbrellas, radios or cassette players to donate to IRIS.
43rd Annual Cherry Blossom Festival
GNHCC is represented at the 43rd Annual Cherry Blossom Festival on historic Wooster Square in New Haven. There is music, food, activities for children, and many other things to see and do, including the beautiful cherry trees in bloom.
