We've been enjoying a beautiful summer weather-wise.  But it has not kept us from preparing for GNHCC's 2014 - 15 concert season.  We have been busy planning concert programs, choosing venues, having board meetings and retreats, making arrangements for our annual choral singers retreats, etc.  Take a look at some of the things we have been working on and have planned for this season.

GNHCC 2014 Fall Season Call for Singers
Rehearsals and Enrollment
Registration Start September 4!

Add a description Prospective members considering enrollment are invited to attend three rehearsals as guests before committing to join the chorus. This provides an opportunity for interested singers to meet the chorus and Noah Blocker-Glynn, Artistic Director, to see if GNHCC provides an appealing atmosphere. The fall enrollment period is September 4 - September 18, 2014. Interested singers may visit any rehearsal during this period. Rehearsals are held every Thursday from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, at 704 Whitney Avenue, New Haven.

Greater New Haven Community Chorus consists of approximately 100 voices and draws its membership from throughout the greater New Haven area.  GNHCC strives to embrace the wide diversity of the community and is committed to making quality music accessible and approachable for audiences and members alike.

A strong commitment to performance excellence is expected from members and there are opportunities for small ensemble work and solos by audition, including the auditioned GNHCC Chamber Choir

GNHCC to Participate
in New Haven Read's Annual Spelling Bee

New Haven Reads is dedicated to building a city of readers by providing a variety of critical literacy services to the Greater New Haven area.

The New Haven Reads Spelling Bee began in 2012 and has become their signature annual fundraiser. This year's Bee will take place on October 24, 2014, and GNHCC board members Tomas Miranda, Laura Pringleton, and Katherine McManus will participate in the event as a team representing GNHCC.

New Haven Reads, founded to "share the joy and power of reading," increases the literacy skills of children to empower their academic success by providing individually tailored one-on-one after-school tutoring, educational family support, and a community book bank, all at no cost to participants.

Working in partnership with families and the community, New Haven Reads envisions a Greater New Haven in which every child has the opportunity to master reading and increase the odds of becoming a successful adult. Their volunteer-based one-on-one tutoring programs, their Book Bank, and their family support initiatives will serve as a national model for other communities.

All the funds raised at NHR's Spelling Bee will support their free community programs. For more information visit www.newhavenreads.org.

We wish GNHCC members Tomas, Laura and Katherine good luck!  Bring us home that trophy!
