GNHCC has been busy ... and not just with rehearsals!

A cookbook!  Workshops!  A 50th Anniversary Dinner Celebration!  A scholarship opportunity...and so much more!

Ritmica, the first workshop of our 2014 Spring/Summer Educational Offerings, will take place tonight at 7:00 p.m.  There is still time to register!  You can register online until 4:00 p.m. this afternoon!

A cookbook commemorating GNHCC's 50th anniversary is nearly complete, and the response to the request for recipes has been fantastic!  You still have a few more days to submit a favorite recipe (or two!) - and to place your order for cookbooks.  The deadline has been extended through April 6.  The cookbooks will make great gifts!

Applications are being accepted for GNHCC's Choral Conducting Assistant Scholarship - now in its fifth year.  This scholarship opportunity is one of a kind.  Visit www.gnhcc.org for more details and to apply.

GNHCC Members
Annual Spring Semester Choral Retreat

Members of GNHCC gathered for an all-day Chorus Retreat on March 29th in Branford.  Each semester the chorus dedicates an entire day to rehearsing, socializing, sharing great food and celebrating our music.

A focus of this year's retreat was "Choral Imagination."  Artistic Director Noah Blocker-Glynn led 9 groups of chorus members to conceive their interpretation of Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb.  Groups of singers gave dramatic readings on their take of the Christopher Smart text, complete with movement and accompaniment.  The activity helped to find unified themes in the music that will aid in the chorus' preparation and performance.

Another focus of the day was the inner "storyboard" of Jake Runestad's commissioned piece, Voices of One. With a strong concept in mind, the piece is really taking "flight".

The Winning Poetry
that Inspired GNHCC's 50th Anniversary Commissioned Piece

Take a look at the winning poems from the GNHCC poetry competition that were  used to inspire the lyrics of the GNHCC commissioned choral work Voices of One composed by Jake Runestad.  The poems were written by Doreen Canzanella, Patricia Driscoll, Russ Madison and Mary Connors.  The composition will be premiered by Greater New Haven Community Chorus at the Spring Concert in May in culmination of the chorus's 50th anniversary season.

Reminder: GNHCC is Still Accepting Choral Conducting Assistant Scholarship Applications

The Choral Conducting Assistant Scholarship program presents a remarkable opportunity for a university or college student who is interested in the art of choral conducting.  Applicants should currently be enrolled in a local college, community college, or university studying in an undergraduate or a graduate music degree program, and have a strong interest in choral music, conducting, and teaching.  The recipient will gain real-world, hands-on experience through weekly interaction with a large chorus of varying levels and ability and a smaller, auditioned chamber choir.

Forward this to a friend or music student that may be interested in this great opportunity!

The application deadline is Tuesday, April 14, 2014.  Apply online.

It seems like just a short time ago that GNHCC was preparing for the Fall 50th anniversary concert to kick off our 50th anniversary season!  Yet, here we are, preparing for the finale concert and the exciting performance of our commissioned piece, Voices of One.  At the recent Spring retreat, GNHCC members were able to spend time on the story and the vision behind this piece. We hope you plan to attend our May 31 concert.  You don't want to miss the world premiere of this amazing piece.  Tickets can be purchased from any GNHCC member, or  online!

We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events!
