Driving Question: How can we, as Engineers, build trusses to understand the advantages of the modern truss bridge?
The Energy Legends Sophomore Cohort worked on an interdisciplinary bridge unit for their first project of the semester. Using the driving question from Engineering and what they learned about building trusses, students then researched historic bridges and their importance in terms of infrastructure and the technologic advancements of the time. Students built models of their historic bridge and wrote detailed essays about their research and findings. The project is a great example of the interdisciplinary work being done in our new cohort model!

Bell-Less Schedule
Today we began our transformation to a bell-less system. The new system will remove bell interruptions for our cohort classes and allow more flexibility for cohort teachers to plan their four hour blocks. In addition, the bell-less system supports our college and career initiatives in providing an atmosphere that mirrors university and industry. Students are responsible for managing their time according to the existing schedule. We will continue to have a morning bell, lunch bells, and the dismissal bell at the end of the day.
Early Dismissal
This Wednesday is an early release day. Students will be released to lunch at 12:15 and the buses will leave campus at 1pm.
Eleventh Grade Parent Meeting
This Thursday we have a junior parent meeting. During this meeting we will present information regarding the new PSAT/SAT format, DiscoverU will present summer opportunities for students, and IPAA/PESA will present on how to prepare and apply for the summer externships. See you this Thursday evening at 6:00 in the cafeteria.
Energy Day
Our first field trip and volunteering opportunity will be Saturday, October 17th at the city of Houston's Energy Day. We will be able to take two buses of students. The event will be from 9am - 2pm.Permission slips will go home this week.

This week's student nomination comes from the Major League Geniuses ninth grade cohort, written by Ms. Estrella.
Doak Proctor, an usual name; an even more unusual student. How many freshmen have perfect attendance, perfect grades, perfect drive and self accountability? Few, in my opinion. Doak is a fantastic representative of the Class of 2019, and yet a leading student and sure to get better throughout his high school career. If you find yourself looking for a friend or study partner, Doak would be the best choice you could make. See Doak in the hall? Wave and let him know how great he's doing!
