Student Pick Up and Drop Off Locations
In the morning, student drop off will be along Sampson Street where students will be able to enter through the gate and main entrance.
Please drop your child off on the school side of the street so they do not have to cross through traffic.

In the afternoon, car pick up is along Jefferson Street only. Students must exit out the end of the sophomore hallway and meet their vehicle on Jefferson Steet. Students will not be allowed to cross Sampson Street to meet vehicles.
Visitor and Parent Parking
Parking for parents and visitors to our campus is parallel parking on Sampson Street.  The only entrance for visitors and parents is our main entrance on Sampson Street.  In order to meet safety and security needs all other doors will be locked.

Driving Question: How can we create an effective and cheap filtration device that can be used in times of crisis?

Dr. Gibson's eleventh grade Biotech Engineering classes have spent the past few weeks working on a water filtration design project.  In this challenge, the eleventh graders were asked to design, construct, and test the effectiveness of simple devices that can filter water for immediate drinking.  Students were addressing the problem of people losing access to clean drinking water in the aftermath of natural disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Students developed a variety of solutions, ranging from small distillation units to charcoal filters, and even a mixture of crushed seeds with antiseptic properties!  We tested our devices using water collected from Buffalo Bayou, and students presented their results in class as well as through "company" websites.  Some of the results have been impressive, proving that both the clarity and chemistry of bayou water can be improved quickly.  Good job, students!

Important Updates
Sign Out Procedures
We appreciate all the effort you make to schedule appointments at the end of the day in order to minimize the amount of time students are missing instruction.  However, we will not be able to release students after 2:45pm. They must be signed out before 2:45pm, otherwise they will be dismissed at 3:30 with the dismissal bell.  Remember, in order for students to be excused when signed out early they must turn in a signed doctors note the next day.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Meet our New Staff Members
Meet Mr. Truong, who joined our tenth grade team this year as our Chemistry PBL facilitator in the Super Nova Cohort. We are very excited to have him join Energy!

Mr. Truong joins us after graduating from the University of Houston Downtown with his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. Mr. Truong is originally from Saigon, Vietnam.  He loves to travel and recently visited Germany, Poland, and France while completing his international research internship at University of Lodz, Poland. As a teacher Mr. Truong hopes that students leaving his classroom learning not only the content but also become more mature students. His hope is that students learn how to work and make decision independentl and that they become life-time self-learners. Through project based learning he would like to see his students improve their communication and cooperation skills, and to experiment with various positions such as leader, scriber, manager, worker, and communicator to see which is the best fit for them.

If you haven't met Mr. Truong, make sure you stop by to say hello and welcome him to Energy!  We are thrilled to have him join the Energy family!
