Welcome Back
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!  We had a wonderful first day back and were excited to see our returning students and welcome many new faces!  Thank you for your patience this week as bus routes, schedules, and classes are worked out.

Please plan to arrive early the first week of school.  The tardy bell rings at 8:05.  Students must report to their Sync class every day this week by 8:10am.  There are many important announcements and changes in this newsletter.  Please be sure to read through each section.

We are currently working on updating our mailing list based on the latest communication form.  In the meantime, be sure to check the Facebook page for the newsletters and other important announcements.
Open House
Mark your calendar!  Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 17th at 6pm.  You will have an opportunity to meet all of your child's teachers and the administrative team at Energy.  Parents are strongly encouraged to attend so please save the date now!

Energy Booster PTO will be available starting at 5pm for their Annual PTO Membership Drive, as well as DiscoverU a new organization pairing students with Fantastic Learning Opportunities throughout the school year and next summer.
HISD Transportation
Families should have received a postcard in the mail last week containing information regarding student bus routes. The routes are also posted on the HISD Transportation page. Search Energy Institute High School and look for the route closest to your permanent address. Students who registered after June 1st will most likely not be added to a route until September 4th.  They will be allowed on the bus route closest to their permanent address for the first two weeks.
Parents, check out this new bus route tracking system. Visit: herecomesthebus.com from a desktop or laptop to register your child's route.  Sign up using the HISD Code: 76647.  Once you register on a desktop or laptop, you can use the mobile application to check the status of your child's bus route.
Important Schedule Updates
The tardy bell ring at 8:05 daily.  Students are expected to be in their 1st period class by 8:10 each day.  Any students who arrive after 8:10 are considered tardy.

We will no longer have late start Wednesdays.  School will start daily at 8:05am.
Dress Code
While Energy does not require school uniforms, we do have three distinct Dress Code Day requirements.  For specific requirements please view the entire dress code here.  Students will receive a copy of the attached dress code in Sync this week and will sign to confirm they have reviewed it with their Sync teacher.

Regular Dress:  The Energy High dress code requires neat, clean, and appropriate dress and grooming. Students should be dressed in such a manner that their appearance in the school contributes to the learning process rather than interrupting the learning process. The dress code is in effect at all times while on the campus or while attending any HISD/EIHS sponsored event. Appropriateness of dress shall be assessed by the administration. Administrative decisions will be final.
Please make sure students are wearing pants without holes, shorts and skirts that are no shorter than three finger widths above the knee, no athletic shorts. Pants also should not be sweatpants, athletic pants, tights, joggers, or dance/yoga pants.

Student Presentation Days and Guest Speaker Dress:  Students are required to wear professional dress on the days their group presentations a project. Teachers will give students specific guidelines for the presentations. It will be typical business professional dress.  When students are attending a Guest Speaker event, they are required to be in business professional dress.

Field Trip: Field trip attire will be based on field trip location and will be included on the permission slip.

College Success Advisor
We are very excited to introduce our new College Success Advisor to the Energy family, Ms. Kimberly Simmons!

"Hello Everyone!  My name is Kimberly Simmons and I am going to be the new college adviser at Energy High School. I am originally from Fort Worth, Texas, but I moved to San Antonio when I was 18 to attend college at Trinity University. I graduated from Trinity University with a double major in Psychology and Spanish as well as a minor in Sociology. After graduating I took a position with Trinity University College Advising Corps as a college adviser and I was placed at Brackenridge High School in San Antonio. The position was a 2 year commitment and after my commitment was up, I loved being a college adviser so much that I wanted to continue to do so somewhere else. And now I'm here! I will be working at one other high school in HISD so I will not be here every day, but I am really excited to be here and I can't wait to meet everybody!"

Please be sure to introduce yourself if you see Ms. Simmons and welcome her to the Energy family!
We value your feedback!
