Energy is a proud recipient of the Magnet Schools Assistance Program

Energy would like to thank IPAA/PESA for all of their support! For those parents who don't know, IPAA/PESA is one of our major supporters. They work very hard to secure of funding, plan guest speakers, and plan our field trips. So a huge thank you to IPAA/PESA for their unending support!
OTC Beneficiary of the Year!

The Energy Institute High School was honored last night at the Annual Offshore Technology Conference Award and Charity Dinner.  The Offshore Technology Conference donated $250,000 to the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and the Petroleum Equipment and Services Association (PESA) Energy Education Center for the benefit of Energy Institute High School. Student representatives from Energy were on hand to speak with dinner attendees about the important work happening at Energy and how corporate partnerships are enhancing their high school experience.  We are so honored to be the recipient of such a generous award and are thankful for our partnership with IPAA/PESA!
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Our Student Spotlight this week goes to 9th grade student, Vivian Reyes. Vivian was nominated by Dr. Hall as one of her most improved students this year.  Vivian had difficulty with the engineering content early in the semester but has persevered. Dr. Hall said, "she has tremendously improved by coming to tutorials and asking for help when she needs it. I commend her for never giving up and continuing to work hard at being a great team member while working on group projects." Vivian came to Energy after hearing about it from her mother, an engineer at Apache.  Vivian commented, "the learning is a lot different than middle school.  Project based learning allows me the opportunity to learn from others.  It also gives me the chance to learn in my own way and really drive my own learning.  I am overcoming my shyness as well!" Energy is so proud to honor Vivian with this award and for her dedication and hard work!

Teacher Appreciation Week
We are so thankful for the incredible and gifted teachers we have at Energy!  Our teachers consistently go above and beyond for our students both in and outside the classroom sponsoring clubs, chaperoning field trips, organizing competitions, providing extra tutorials, teaching guitar, coaching soccer, and offering a kind word to a frustrated student, are just a few examples!  The dedication of our teachers is seen every day on campus as you tour classrooms and see the meaningful and thoughtful projects our teachers have planned in order to provide our students with opportunities to experience deeper learning and find their own passions. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and we would like to acknowledge and thank the best staff in the district for their hard work, dedication, and for the work they do with students on a daily basis. Energy would not be the same without each and everyone of you! Energy family, be sure to thank your teachers this week and let them know how much they are appreciated, not just this week but every week!
Offshore Technology Conference
Ninth grade students will be attending the Offshore Technology Conference this Thursday.  Students MUST wear their IPAA polo, khaki pants, closed toe shoes, and have a plastic ID badge.  If you do not have your Energy student ID you need to see Mr. Cavazos before Thursday.  Lunch will be provided.

Parents we have 20 spots available to chaperone the 9th grade field trip to OTC this Thursday.  If you are interested in attending please email Mr. Flores at [email protected].
SAVE THE DATE

Texas A&M Engage Day

Last Friday, a group of fifteen sophomore students participated in the Texas A&M ENGAGE Engineering Showcase at College Station.  The ENGAGE program (Engineering Aggies Gaining Experience) is a partnership with the College of Engineering committed to providing Energy students with access to engineering programs at the university. Students toured the showcase which included over 175 final engineering projects developed by over 700 engineering students.  Students got a first hand look at the type of projects and work expected of college engineering students.  What an excellent opportunity for Energy students!  Thank you to Ms. Garcia and Ms. Praus for chaperoning and organizing the event!
Mr. Norman Augustine Visits Energy

Energy students and staff were honored last week with a visit from Mr. Norman Augustine.  Among his notable achievements Mr. Augustine currently sits on the prestigious United States Energy Security Council, is chairman of the Review of United States Human Space Flight Plans Committee, former Under Secretary of the Army and former CEO of Lockheed Martin.  While in town for a speaking engagement Thursday evening Mr. Augustine visited Energy and spent over two hours touring classrooms, speaking to over 200 students, and having lunch with a small group of students.  Mr. Augustine was enthusiastically received by the students who felt they could easily connect with his message. The wisdom he shared with students included messages about being good, hard working individuals stating, "The most important thing you have is your reputation.  Try to protect that."  It was a visit that will not be forgotten!
