Energy is a proud recipient of the Magnet Schools Assistance Program

Energy would like to thank IPAA/PESA for all of their support! For those parents who don't know, IPAA/PESA is one of our major supporters. They work very hard to secure of funding, plan guest speakers, and plan our field trips. So a huge thank you to IPAA/PESA for their unending support!

Mrs. Alexander and Ms. Estrella have blended their classes for their current PBL over body systems.  Students were asked which type of project they were interested in, in order to be grouped.  Some students are making models, other are acting, some drawing, several are building special aquatic projects, and other are using their engineering skills to develop working body systems models.  It is an exciting time in Biology class at Energy!
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
written by: Fernanda Reyes and Audreanna Robinson

Our Student Spotlight this week goes to ninth grade student Alexandra Hernandez. She was nominated by Ms. Sola for her work ethic and collaboration.  "Alexandra is dedicated to working hard and sharing her ideas to help her classmates succeed."  Ms. Sola said that Alexandra, "is always willing to innovate and propose creative ideas for amazing projects." Alexandra says, "What motivates me is my goal to go to Texas A&M on an academic scholarship and become a chemical engineer." Energy is very proud of Alexandra and we can't wait to see what she will accomplish over the next two years with all of her hard work and dedication!  Keep up the good work Alexandra!

THE WOODS CAMPING CLUB

The Walk for the Woods fundraising event took place this past Saturday and was a great success! Thank you to everyone who has supported the club in their first year, especially Mr. Tate, Ms. Lockhart, and Mrs. Garcia! A great time was had by all and we raised money for our summer camping trips!  We are still fundraising to send students on their trip. Donations can be made HERE!  If you have questions, please contact Mr. Tate at atate@houstonisd.org.

THE RECYCLING CLUB

Congratulations are in order for the Energy Recycling Club who participated as first-timers in the City of Houston Solid Waste Management "Growing Up Recycling" Cart contest. The students were excited to have their first opportunity to create something unique out of recycleable materials with a theme. The event took place on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the HISD Aministration building as a part of the 3rd Annual "When I Grow Up" Career Expo. As a result of our student leaders presentation of the decorated bin and top writing skills, Energy took home a 2nd place win and $400 for their efforts. The participants and designers were: Amber Farias (President), Saige Cade (Vice-President), Lucero Zamarripa (Secretary), Simei Avila, Luis Alvarez, Mayra Espinosa, Nancy Mastache, Melissa Rodriguez, and Julianna Wills. the Recycling Club would also like to thank Dr. Hall (Sponsor), Mr. Diosomito, Ms. Moon and Ms. Phillips for your support!

TRIP TO ICELAND 2016

Tomorrow night is the parent meeting for students interested in attending the Iceland 2016 trip! Students will explore how science and technology are combining to make Iceland a next-generation energy leader. Students will develop a deeper understanding of innovative technologies, environmental sustainability, and clean power sources like geothermal energy - a renewable source heating 90% of Icelandic homes today. Students will participate in a two day STEM leadership conference with world renowned speakers on business and energy, expert-led workshops, and a chance to work on teams with students from around the world to solve a pressing energy issue.

Iceland has so many different geological experiences for students from glacier formations, lava fields, waterfalls, and more! Join us tomorrow night to learn more! We will meet at 6:00 PM in Student Media Lounge. If you have any questions please email Noelle MacGregor at nmacgreg@houstonisd.org.
