9th grade World Geography students held their Model UN last week after spending time researching current issues in the Middle East. Students then selected a specific country to represent at the United Nations conference. Students did a wonderful job representing their countries and participated in a lively debate and class discussion. |
Our Student Spotlight this week features 9th grade student, Miles De La Fuente. Miles was nominated by his World Geography teacher Ms. Ratliff for his great attitude in and out of the classroom at Energy. Ms. Ratliff nominated Miles saying, "Miles is awesome! He always takes the time to greet everyone and really cares about his education. He is always prepared for class and is always ready to learn." Miles' biology teacher Mrs. Alexander also gave Miles glowing praise stating, "Miles is a responsible, hardworking, polite, respectful, and quite funny student. He's always checking to make sure his assignments are in on time. He is a great joy to have in class." We are proud to highlight a student who is not only being successful in the classroom but is working hard for that success and showing dedication to his education. Keep up the great work Miles - it definitely does not go unnoticed!

ENGINEERING PRESENTATIONS |
9th grade engineering classes presented their final projects on Oil Spills and their findings after researching oil spill frequency and the effects they have on the environment. The students presented to a panel of expert engineers and other industry professionals. It was an excellent opportunity for them to receive professional feedback on their work as well as mentorship and encouragement from current engineers. Mr. Houston, an Engineer for the Environmental Protection Agency, spoke to them about his career journey and said, "I am critiquing you now so you will be better prepared in the future. You are already making great choices for yourself by attending a school dedicated to preparing you for college and career." Energy is very thankful to all the judges who took two days away from work to speak with our students and provide meaningful feedback on their projects. It was definitely a memorable learning experience for all students involved. Great job to Dr. Hall and Mr. Mendoza for organizing the presentation days!
A big thank you to our guest judges: Mr. Robert Houston - Engineer for the Environmental Protection Agency Mr. Ben McMillan - Owner/Principal Architect of IDG Architect Firm Mr. Denzel Shaw - Construction Science Major currently studying at Prairie View A&M University Ms. Tiffany Shelby - Probation Counselor Mr. Marlo Diosomito - Chemistry Teacher Mr. Timothy Chung - EIHS 10th grade student (Top student from last year's engineering course) |
