Special Thanks

Energy would like to thank IPAA/PESA for all of their support! For those parents who don't know, IPAA/PESA is one of our major supporters. They work very hard to secure of funding, plan guest speakers, and plan our field trips. So a huge thank you to IPAA/PESA for their unending support!

15 Energy students participated in Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society at the University of Houston's outreach event "MindSET." Students spent their Saturday making ice cream and working with circuits.  A big thank you to Mr. Diosomito for chaperoning the trip!
DIGITAL TOOLS PARENT WORKSHOP

It's time for our first parent workshop! Please join us Thursday, November 20 at 6:30pm for our Digital Tools parent meeting. Our goal is to help get parents better acquainted with the HUB, Naviance, and Gradespeed.  All of these are tools available to help parents and students stay up to date with assignments, prepare for college, and track their progress in class. Please bring your student's laptop and we will help guide you through all the resources available to parents and our students this year.  See you next Thursday!

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT

Ms. Amanda Alexander teaches Prep and Pre-AP Biology for our 9th grade students.  Originally from Lufkin, Texas, Ms. Alexander attended Salem College in North Carolina and Texas Tech University.  While at Texas Tech Ms. Alexander co-founded The Outdoor School.  She started her teaching career while conducting graduate level research at the Biological Field Research Station.  She has been teaching Biology and Chemistry for the past 7 years.  She is excited to use her experiences as a research scientist to inspire and teach future scientists.  Ms. Alexander joined Energy for our STEM focused, energy related curriculum and project based learning.  "PBL is a new way of teaching. I'm starting from scratch and learning how to create real-world, relevant projects for students in a technology based environment."  We are thrilled to have Ms. Alexander here and look forward to all of her students amazing projects to come!
Ladies of Energy Overnight Conference

The Second Annual Ladies of Energy Overnight Conference was a great success!  Students participated in workshops ranging from professional dress to building positive relationships.  The evening included an etiquette seminar followed by dinner provided for the Ladies of Energy by Southwestern Energy.  The night concluded with a glow stick scavenger hunt throughout the school!  A huge thanks goes out to Ms. Estrella, Ms. De Leon, Dr. Hall, and Ms. Maltbia for organizing this incredible event for our students.  What a great tradition for our ladies!
STEM SHELL SHOWDOWN

24 Freshman students represented Energy at the STEM Shell Showdown last Friday at the University of Houston.  Our students won the Safety Award and brought home gift cards and backpacks!  Great job representing Energy!

STEM OPPORTUNITIES
UH Energy Symposium

The University of Houston ENERGY presents the second of four workshops addressing the energy workforce needs gap, the talent pipeline, current STEM high education assessment and education innovation for the future.

The 2014-2015 Energy Symposium Series features moderated debates between industry experts held throughout the year covering the most relevant topics in the energy space.  Come join the conversation!

Please RSVP to uhenergy@uh.edu to attend their upcoming workshop November 17th.

STUDENT AMBASSADORS
Our Energy Ambassadors did an amazing job speaking with prospective students and families at Magnet Awareness Week events that took place on campus last week.  Students led parents through a PBL model to teach parents about the unique opportunities Energy provides and guided parents on tours of the school.  Parents were extremely impressed with our student leaders!
