The Energy Institute High School is pleased to introduce Ms. Priya Devineni as the newest member of the Energy Institute. Devineni is joining us after working at NASA for the past eight years as an Aerospace and Systems Engineer in the Spacecraft and Vehicle Systems Department. Devineni was part of the NASA Foundations in Influence, Relationships, Success, and Teamwork (FIRST) competitive leadership development program. Education has always been one of her passions. While at NASA she spent numerous hours as a volunteer teaching math, science, engineering, art, and technology to children in her own community and internationally. She joined Energy to continue her passion stating, "I came to Energy Institute because I saw an opportunity to impact the way students are learning in today's evolving society, technology, and global economic scene." An alumni from University of Alabama at Huntsville, Devineni will be teaching tenth grade Principles of Engineering in Geosciences and Offshore Technology. We are so excited to have her join our staff and are looking forward to seeing some amazing projects from her tenth grade students! Be sure to welcome Ms. Devineni to our campus!

PROJECT BASED LEARNING IN ACTION |
Driving question: How do public relations professionals create social media profiles and videos to promote social stereotypes for famous people?
In Ms. Sola's Spanish class students researched different stereotypes of famous artists. Based on their research, students created a social media profile and a video of the same student to transform him or her into a famous artist. In both projects students expressed agreements and disagreements, likes and dislikes, and adjectives in Spanish. Students used current technology and social media avenues to demonstrate their projects through a Facebook template.

FIRST ANNUAL HAUNTED HOUSE |
Energy's first annual Haunted House fundraiser was a huge success this past Friday. Students entered the Science Scare Room and migrated through a dark and creepy maze to work their way through the Haunted House. This fundraiser was a major success and allowed the Woods Camping Club (WCC) to reach their first goal for this school year, raising enough money to pay for 1/3 of the summer trip that sends five tudents on a two-week long camping trip to a National Park out of state. A big thank you to Ms. Estrella for organizing the haunted house and for all her hard work! The WCC would also like to send a big thank you to all of our student volunteers and especially the parents of Alexx Tesson, Claire Craig, Isaac Whitley, Jacob Guerrero, Angi Rocha, Jose Ponce, Austin Maltbia, and Nataly Escamilla for their continuous support for our program. Be sure to buy a ticket and join us next year for our second Haunted House fundraiser! |
