Parking for parents and visitors to our campus is parallel parking on Sampson Street. The only entrance for visitors and parents is our main entrance on Sampson Street. In order to meet safety and security needs all other doors will be locked. |
Class begins promptly at 9:15 on late start Wednesdays. Students are considered tardy if they are not in class by 9:15. |
Energy's official ADA time this year is
10:00 AM. Please schedule your child's appointments so that he or she is back to school by 10:00 AM or leaves after 10:00 AM. We receive our funding based on attendance at this time. Funding allows us to provide more for your child! |
For their continued support of our Ladies of Energy and their generous contribution to the Ladies of Energy Overnight Conference!
Energy would like to thank IPAA/PESA for all of their support! For those parents who don't know, IPAA/PESA is one of our major supporters. They work very hard to secure of funding, plan guest speakers, and plan our field trips. So a huge thank you to IPAA/PESA for their unending support!

The chemistry and art departments teamed up for a project to make silkscreened t-shirts about historical scientists and their accomplishments. Students created original designs and handmade screens to apply their designs to shirts. Additional shirts will be sold by the Tesla Club as their first fundraiser for the year.

Ms. Sally Rodriguez-Sola is the Spanish 1 and AP Spanish 4 and 5 teacher at the Energy Institute High School. We are lucky to have such an enthusiastic and energetic teacher joining our staff this year! Ms. Sola has spent the last 5 years teaching Spanish in Michigan, Vermont, Puerto Rico, and Texas. Originally from Puerto Rico, Ms. Sola earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Puerto Rico and her master's degree from University of Salamanca, Spain and Center for the Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Ms. Sola joined the Energy Institute staff because she is passionate about the mission and vision of the school and the opportunity to teach a project based learning curriculum. "I want my students to fall in love with my Spanish class by putting into action the knowledge they will gain." Students definitely have an opportunity to put their Spanish language skills to the test in Ms. Sola's class. She loves acting and composing plays with her students. We are so glad to have Ms. Sola join our community this year - her energy is a perfect fit! |
COMMUNITY MEETING ON THE NEW BUILDING |
We had a great turnout at last week's Community Meeting to release the designs of the new building. The night started with an introduction from Principal Lambropoulos and then a brief presentation from the architects from VLK. Community members, staff, faculty, students, and parents were then invited to view illustrations and were able to speak directly with the architects and other members of the PAT committee.
Check out the HISD blog article written about the event: |
ENERGY RECEIVES CLASSROOM DONATION |
We are so thankful to Ms. Paige Barnett and Steelcase Education who have donated a classroom set of Node Chairs to Energy! The Node chair is mobile and flexible. It's designed for quick, easy transitions from one teaching mode to the next. With Node, a classroom can transition from lecture mode to team mode and back again, without interruption. This furniture will help teachers and students implement project based learning through the utilization of collaborative furniture. Thank you Steelcase Education for the wonderful donation! |
Several girls from our Ladies of EIHS organization traveled Wednesday evening to the 11th Annual Young Women Energized event hosted at the University of St. Thomas. Students, Alexx Tesson, Giselle Guevara, Stephanie Mendoza, Carla Forro, and Diana Prieto had the privilege of hearing from excellent speakers brought in specifically to encourage young women to join STEM fields and the Energy Industry. Our girls proudly represented our school, showing off their professional skills, networking, and even personally spoke with leaders from the Women's Energy Network. Future opportunities often come up and the best place to learn about them is through the LEIHS organization on campus. Our next brief meeting will be held on October 28th during both lunches in Ms. Estrella's room. |
Students in Mr. Lamb and Ms. DeLaRosa's World Geography class presented their projects on the topic "Documenting a Disaster" on Wednesday and Friday of last week. Students chose from a list of natural disasters and explored the links between humans and their environment. For the World Geography component, students had to create a model, either in 3D scale or digitally, for a memorial to the victims of the disaster. In their presentations, students gave a multi-media presentation of how the disaster formed, retold the history the disaster, and produced a safety video that was a step-by-step guide on how to reduce damage in future disasters. For the English I component, this week students will write an expository paper that uses several modes of writing to explain the full scope of their disaster and prevention plan.
Pictured are World Geography students Jose Saravia, Elizabeth Kim, and Chris Latin with their model and presentation of the Mexico City Earthquake.

The PAP English II sophomores just wrapped up a project to answer the driving question: How do contrary tones complement each other to convey a singular message? Students answered this question in groups by analyzing the complex tones in a piece of contemporary music. Students were first required to analyze the writer's attitude towards a subject they identified in the lyrics. Then they worked with their groups to analyze the feeling that the instruments created in the music. Finally, they determined the artists' overall message by considering the two tones together and asserting a thesis that answered the driving question.
As part of their project, students participated in a songwriters' workshop, led by their own AP World History teacher, Mr. Aaron Tate, who discussed the considerations songwriters make when choosing music to put with lyrics.

CALLING ALL ENERGY STUDENTS |
For the first time ever in HISD history students are being given a voice in HISD. Now is your chance to get involved and represent Energy and our students on a district level.
Who We Are:
We're an organization run by students for students. It's our mission to be a bridge between students and administrators for the Houston Independent School District. When we graduate, we will have spent nearly 16,000 hours in the school system, yet we have rarely been asked for our opinion or given feedback. Isn't it time we change that? We have monthly meetings throughout the school year at different area high schools. We also attend HISD's public board meetings. Everyone's welcome - there's no application or prerequisites necessary... Message from the Speaker of the Student Congress: "I'm reaching out to Energy Institute so we can get more pull from your school. We're going to push to make the largest attendance of students to a board meeting in HISD history. We want to fill the room, and I need ya'll's help. That board meeting is on Thursday at November 13th, and it's right after school at 4:30pm.
We'll get free T-shirts and a chance (for those interested) to speak before a podium to the Board of Ed. and Superintendent. Board meetings are featured on local TV, the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Press, etc. If everyone in StuCon comes with a friend, I can promise we'll be in the news everywhere. This is our chance to get loud."
