Meet Ms. Finch a member of the math team here at Energy!  Ms. Finch comes to Energy with a passion for helping her students overcome their fears of algebra.  "I am looking forward to seeing the light in my students' eyes when they finally understand and are no longer afraid of Algebra. It is already happening and I am so happy."  Ms. Finch is teaching Pre-AP Algebra, Pre-AP Geometry, and AP Statistics.  Ms. Finch comes with an extensive math and teaching background, earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas.  She is excited about the opportunity to start new and innovative educational programs.  We are thrilled to have Ms. Finch and her math expertise at Energy!  Be sure to stop by and say hello!

STUDENT CONGRESS

by: Amber Farias & Avin Pasalar

This past Saturday, September 27, (2) Energy students went to Hattie Mae White and participated in the HISD Student Congress. This student group was created by HISD students in order to give students a voice on matters in their schools and inform leaders on the school board with what is concerning schools. To begin, an opening statement was given on the overview of the assembly. Juliet Stipeche, a member of the board, spoke on the importance of students voicing opinions and how it can change education. Next, five committee chairs were voted on and assigned to five different students.

Listed Below:

Outreach Committee - Deals with media publications

Finance Committee - Works on fundraising

Agenda Committee - Assists in designing projects and agenda meetings

Governance Committee - Oversees the constitution application

Advocacy Committee - Determines key issues in education

Students then broke up into one of the five committees and voiced their concerns and ideas to each group. When completed, students went back to their seats and each committee chair went to the front to share their group discussion.

The meeting ended with an overall picture of members in the HISD board room.

Zaakir Tameez, Speaker of the Congress, stated, "Everyone is welcome. Everyone is invited. No matter your GPA, no matter your test scores, everyone is invited. We want to get everyone's voice out there."
