Mark Your Calendar for Open House
|
The Energy Open House will take place on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 6:00 PM. During the evening you will walk in your child's shoes and experience what a "day in the life" of an Energy student is. You will get to meet all of your child's teachers. It's a great way to put a face with a name, find out what your child will be learning this year, and how to best help your child succeed! We hope to have a packed house! |
Visitor and Parent Parking |
Parking for parents and visitors to our campus is parallel parking on Sampson Street. The only entrance for visitors and parents is our main entrance on Sampson Street. In order to meet safety and security needs all other doors will be locked. |
Class begins promptly at 9:15 on late start Wednesdays. Students are considered tardy if they are not in class by 9:15. |
Energy's official ADA time this year is
10:00 AM. Please schedule your child's appointments so that he or she is back to school by 10:00 AM or leaves after 10:00 AM. We receive our funding based on attendance at this time. Funding allows us to provide more for your child! |
Energy would like to thank IPAA/PESA for all of their support! For those parents who don't know, IPAA/PESA is one of our major supporters. They work very hard to secure of funding, plan guest speakers, and plan our field trips. So a huge thank you to IPAA/PESA for their unending support!

Not your average gym class! Students participate in cross-curriculum learning activities of physical education and math by timing and measuring distances in Ms. Martin's P.E. class. |
Sophomore Bobak Torabi spent two weeks participating in the Energy Explorations Academy at Rice University. Students performed experiments in Rice University's undergraduate chemistry laboratory and participated in learning experiences in different areas on campus. Topics included fossil fuels (chemical energy) along with alternative energy (fuel cells, solar cells). The academy also included 3 field trips (Ocean Star Oil Rig Museum Galveston, Wiess Hall at Houston Museum of Natural Science, Schlumberger tour) along with an exploration of seismic data in Rice's new 3D visualization lab. Bobak highly recommends this camp to all 9th grade students at Energy saying not only did the camp help him prepare for 10th grade chemistry, "this was a great camp to introduce you to college, they made the transition process seem easy, and they really want to help you!" |
We are so excited to have Jordan Phillips joining our staff this year as our Art teacher. She will be teaching Pre-Ap and Prep Art this year. Ms. Phillips is originally from Houston and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. During college she worked at MIT making video and board games. She spends her time baking, gaming, and painting. Ms. Phillips came to the Energy Institute because of her interest in STEM and the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, ART, math) movement. She is passionate about bringing art and design to STEM as an important part of education and innovation. Ms. Phillips is excited about this year, especially trying out lots of new projects with the students, and helping students to organize their very own art exhibition! |
MEET THE NEWEST MEMBER OF OUR ENERGY FAMILY! |
Our Dean, Noelle MacGregor and her family welcomed baby girl Olivia Clare on August 29th at 12:31pm, weighing 9 pounds, 1.6 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. Congratulations to the MacGregor family on a beautiful and healthy baby girl! |
Students will be receiving their laptops in their engineering classes Monday and Tuesday. Students must turn in the forms, complete a Cyber Safety unit (during the Engineering class), and pay the $25 fee before receiving a laptop. If students are missing paperwork or the money please turn it in during deployment in engineering classes this week. |
This week our guest speaker for 10th grade is Mr. Paul Niznik of Hart Energy. Mr. Niznik is the lead author of Hart Energy's quarterly Biofuels Market & Policy Report | North America and has been a contributing author to the U.S. & Brazil Ethanol Outlook to 2022 and the annual Global Biofuels Outlook. Mr. Niznik has been cited by The New York Times, Houston Chronicle and other mainstream and trade publications. Mr. Niznik earned his bachelor's degree in astrophysics from Yale University.
Dress Code: students are required to wear a school polo shirt (gifted to students by IPAA/PESA) and khaki pants (no jeans).
