Schedule Changes
The schedule change deadline is Friday, September 5. If your child would like to make any adjustments to his or her schedule, please make sure you sign the form and return it by that date. We are not able to honor all schedule change requests, but try to accomodate all reasonable requests. The form should be turned in to the box in the main office.
Mark Your Calendar for Open House
The Energy Open House will take place on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 6:00 PM. During the evening you will walk in your child's shoes and experience what a "day in the life" of an Energy student is. You will get to meet all of your child's teachers. It's a great way to put a face with a name, find out what your child will be learning this year, and how to best help your child succeed! We hope to have a packed house!
First Day Packets Due Friday
Students were given "First Day Packets" during Sync (homeroom) today. Please fill out and return the paperwork by Friday.
Official ADA Time
Energy's official ADA time this year is
10:00 AM.
Please schedule your child's appointments so that he or she is back to school by 10:00 AM or leaves after 10:00 AM. We receive our funding based on attendance at this time. Funding allows us to provide more for your child!
Special Thanks

Energy would like to thank IPAA/PESA for all of their support! For those parents who don't know, IPAA/PESA is one of our major supporters. They work very hard to secure of funding, plan guest speakers, and plan our field trips. So a huge thank you to IPAA/PESA for their unending support!

FRESHMAN BRIDGE CAMP A HIT

This year's incoming freshmen were once again treated to a fun filled educational Summer Bridge Camp. Students spent the night at Camp Cullen where they participated in team building exercises and learned about the geosciences strand of our energy program by visiting the rock quarry and participating in hands on activities with college professors. The team building was such an important part of camp, since Energy is a full project based learning (PBL) school and students will be working on soft skills, including teamwork, throughout their time at Energy. Students visited UH where they learned about alternative energy and even built a solar powered car. At Lone Star College students learned about our Offshore Technology strand through various guest speakers as well as hands on activities in their labs. Finally, students wrapped up their week by visiting the Weiss Energy Hall at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and visiting Baker Hughes where they heard from members of the Baker Hughes team and toured their labs. The students had a great time and were able to start school today having met half their teachers and half of the class of 2018!

LAPTOP FORMS

Energy students received the required laptop forms during Sync (homeroom) today. They will report to Sync Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with the forms being due by Friday. Students must turn in the forms, complete a Cyber Safety unit (during the Engineering class), and pay the $25 fee before receiving a laptop. The money will be collected during lunch in the cafeteria daily.

As a school that fully integrates technology into the learning, it is very important that we get laptops to all students as soon as possible. Please make sure your child returns the paperwork and pays the $25 cash by Friday so that students can receive the laptops the following week!
NEW SCHOOL DESIGN IN THE WORKS

Students, parents, teachers, community members, energy industry executives, architects, and administrators met at the end of the summer to brainstorm and discuss designs and ideas for the new building. The all day session was very productive and now the architects are working hard to make the panel members' dreams into a design. We can't wait to see what they design! Stay turned!
BACK TO SCHOOL BASICS

Student Drop Off and Pick Up

In the mornings, student drop off will be along Sampson St where students will be able to enter through the gate and main entrance. Please drop your child off on the school side of the street so they do not have to cross through traffic.

In the afternoons, student pick up with be along Jefferson St. Students will exit through the sophomore hallway which is near where Jefferson and Sampson intersect.

Dress Code

The Energy High dress code for the 2014-2015 school year is very similar to last year's. There are few modifications. You can view the entire dress code here Overall the students did a great job last year of dressing appropriately. Please make sure students are wearing pants without holes, shorts and skirts that are no shorter than three finger widths above the knee, and no basketball shorts. Pants also should not be sweatpants, athletic pants, tights, or dance/yoga pants.

This year we have organized the dress code into three different modes of dress: regular days, student presentation days, and IPAA/PESA speakers and field trips. All are detailed on the link above, but please make note that this year when students are wearing their IPAA/PESA polos they are required to wear khaki pants and closed toe shoes. The khaki pants may not be jeans. If you have any questions about this please send your child to see an administrator.

We value your feedback!
