The Prayer of St. Patrick
I arise today Through the strength of heaven; Light of the sun, Splendor of fire, Speed of lightning, Swiftness of the wind, Depth of the sea, Stability of the earth, Firmness of the rock.
I arise today Through God's strength to pilot me; God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's eye to look before me, God's ear to hear me, God's word to speak for me, God's hand to guard me, God's way to lie before me, God's shield to protect me, God's hosts to save me Afar and anear, Alone or in a multitude.
Christ shield me today Against wounding Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in the eye that sees me, Christ in the ear that hears me.
I arise today Through the mighty strength Of the Lord of creation.

My Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
Over the last few weeks we have encouraged our parishioners to sign up for the daily spiritual prayer program called "Moved to Greater Love" as we move through the Lenten Season culminating on Easter. Many of you are participating in this Lenten prayer/devotional. For those who have signed up, we would like your feedback about whether you've been able to participate each day, if not, how often you have been able to, and if you find it beneficial. We are in the process of scheduling group discussions after Masses on the weekend of March 22-23 to reflect on our experiences. I want to ask if you would take a quick survey (it will only take about 2 minutes) so that we can determine the best times to hold these meetings. Please click here to give us your opinion. We greatly appreciate your input.
Gratefully, In Christ,

St. Patrick...Who is This Guy?
|
We all know that next Monday, March 17th, is St. Patrick's Day. For many of us that means corned beef, cabbage, soda bread, a dark brown beverage, and all the accoutrements. Did you know that St. Patrick was a follower of Christ who had a very intense life at a young age, and was hugely responsible for Ireland coming to Christ? Below are two videos that talk about his life (a grownup one...and one for kids that, in our opinion, all adults should really watch! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Cookies With a Catholic
|
Proud parents, Paul and Meg Weber, sent along this article about their son, Ken Weber, a chaplain at Loyola University, New Orleans. He's involved with a very intriguing program called Cookies With a Catholic - a very creative outreach to share Christ and the ministry of the Catholic Church with students as they travel across the campus. This outreach has become quite popular and stimulates questions and conversation about life and faith. Take a look!

The 160-Year Christian History Behind What's Happening in Ukraine How we have misunderstood Russia, the Crimean Peninsula, and supposedly secular Europe.
Philip Jenkins/ March 5, 2014
In recent days, the Crimean peninsula has been at the heart of what some have described as the greatest international crisis of the 21st century. But this is not the first time the region has been so critical to international affairs. Many educated people have at least heard of the great struggle known as the Crimean War (1853-56), although its causes and events remain mysterious to most non-specialists.
If the conflict is remembered today, it resonates through the heroic charitable efforts of Florence Nightingale and the foundation of modern nursing. Actually, that earlier war deserves to be far better known as a pivotal moment in European religious affairs. Without knowing that religious element, moreover-without a sense of its Christian background-we will miss major themes in modern global affairs, in the Middle East and beyond.
