A Big Heart Open To God

My Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

This past week we had the 'interview heard round the world' entitled "A Big Heart Open to God", published in America Magazine. Pope Francis shared about so many issues facing our church and world today, and it is causing quite a stir globally. A wonderful stir!

I have received letters from many of you sharing your excitement and renewed commitment to pray for our spiritual leader as he leads us into new directions and reforms so desperately needed in the church. It is truly a remarkable time to be alive, to be a follower of Christ, to be a Catholic!

In response to Pope Francis' groundbreaking interview, Baltimore Archbishop Lori sent out a letter of response.  I am so grateful for his input and additional reflections. I wanted to share his thoughts with you as well. I'm certain you will be thrilled.

Finally, I wanted to include an article by award-winning religion journalist, author and filmmaker David Gibson. He is a national reporter for Religion News Service (RNS) and has written a pretty insightful article entitled: "5 Things We Learned About Pope Francis From His Blockbuster Interview". I thought you would enjoy his thoughts as well.

A Story of Forgiveness

In his recent Sunday Angelus address, Pope Francis reflected on the mercy of God, exemplified in the three parables of Luke 15 (the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son).  He said, "speak of the joy of God."

"The joy of God is the joy of forgiveness. It is the joy of the shepherd who finds his lost sheep; the joy of the woman who finds her lost coin; the joy of the father who welcomes home his lost son," the Pope said. Forgiveness is the Key to the Kingdom of God. To go deeper into forgiveness, we provide the following article and video on the topic. To view click here.
