Council on Aging workshop helps people plan for long-term care

It's a fact:  70 percent of us will need some form of long-term care during our lifetimes.  Yet it is only after a crisis occurs, that we wish we'd taken the time to plan ahead.

Council on Aging's Own Your Future workshop can help. Since 2010, COA has offered Own Your Future to help people plan for long-term care, protect their assets, and understand what living options and services are available to them as they age.  At the workshop, experts cover topics such as estate and financial planning, Medicare and Medicaid, advance directives, and long-term care options.

Click here to learn more about and register for our Own Your Future workshop series. A one-day workshop will be offered August 22 at Sycamore Senior Center and a two-day workshop will be offered October 6 & 13 at the West Chester Activity Center.  Registration required.

Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act, committing the US to eliminating discrimination against people with disabilities.   Learn more

Guest Voice: Extending an older driver's SAFE driving career
Nancy Schuster

With each passing year, each of us knows that the day may be coming when we might lose some of our personal independence. Driving an automobile is one of the most important privileges of being an independent adult. And it is a privilege most of us never want to give up.

Weighing the factors about whether it is time to retire from your driving career can be an extremely complex task. However, from the simplest of perspectives, the key to extending one's safe driving career can be summed up in just two words: self awareness. Each of us must have the self-awareness to recognize any physical or mental decline that might adversely affect our ability to drive safely.
