Are you ready for MyCare Ohio?  Get the facts at Nov. 20 education forum
Have you heard of MyCare Ohio, Ohio's planned Integrated Care Delivery System (ICDS)?  If you're a professional providing services to clients or patients who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, this is something you should pay attention to. 

 

Join us 9-11:30 am, Nov. 20, for an educational forum to learn about implementation plans for MyCare Ohio.  Registration is required for this free educational forum. Representatives from the Ohio Department of Medicaid and two managed care plans serving our region will share details and answer questions about the new system. We'll also hear about Ohio's plans for consumer advisory councils and for enrollment assistance to consumers who need help selecting a health plan.

 

The goal of the meeting is to help you understand this new system so you'll be informed and prepared to answer questions that may rise from your clients, patients and other stakeholders. Registration is required for this free educational forum. Learn more about the meeting.

CEO Message: Ohio's home health system offers protections for seniors and families
An Oct. 27 article in The Cincinnati Enquirer, "Are lax regulations putting seniors at risk?," erroneously left the impression that the home health care system in Ohio is unregulated. As the CEO of Council on Aging, which administers publicly-funded home care programs, I must point out that this is definitely not the case for programs regulated by Ohio's Department of Health, Department of Medicaid, Department of Aging and Department of Developmental Disabilities.  It is also not the case for the county levy-funded Elderly Services Programs, administered by Council on Aging. Read more...

COA joins statewide campaign to prevent falls among older Ohioans

A new statewide campaign aims to reduce the physical and financial burden of falls among older Ohioans. As part of the campaign, COA will begin conducting annual falls risk assessments with in-home care and assisted living clients enrolled in PASSPORT and Assisted Living Waiver programs.  The goal is prevent falls by identifying those at risk, providing education on fall prevention, and making referrals for further assessment or treatment as necessary.  Learn More

November is National Family Caregivers Month
Caregivers can make a big impact - even from afar

According to the National Institute on Aging, approximately 7 million adults are long-distance caregivers, caring for a parent or other family member living more than an hour away. Long-distance caregiving comes with unique challenges.  Long-distance caregivers might feel helpless because they don't live in the same city or state as their loved one, but there are many things they can do to help. November is National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month.  If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer's or another form of dementia, get help through one of the organizations in our Resource Directory.
