100-Year Vision and Strategic Plan
LCFPD Envsion 100 years of Vibrant, Resilient Communities

The Lake County Forest Preserves has taken a major step toward defining what our community and our natural environment will look like in 100 years. We unanimously approved the plan at our Tuesday, July 15 meeting.

The 100-year Vision became the foundation of the strategic plan, which will guide decision-making efforts for leaders and staff of the Lake County Forest Preserves as they fulfill their mission to preserve and restore land. They will use the Vision's core principles of leadership, conservation and people to protect the forest preserves and ensure that they serve as a model for improving the landscape throughout Lake County.

The plan includes the 100-Year Vision, Strategic Directions and Goals. The Strategic Directions identify the methods and systems needed to reach the Vision. The Goals associated with each strategic direction define the actual practices that will be used to implement the plan. This fall, objectives will be added to the plan to complete the process. Read the full plan at www.LCFPD.org/Vision.
Lake County Convenes Consolidated 911 Working Group
A working group made up of fire, police, municipal and other leaders met to discuss opportunities to consolidate 911 dispatch centers. An integrated 911 system has the opportunity to improve quality, efficiency, and provide cost savings. The idea came out of the first-ever Leaders Summit and subsequent Leaders Roundtables that were hosted by Lake County and municipal partners earlier this year. Over the coming months, we will be bringing together stakeholders to discuss how to further develop this initiative. It is up to us local leaders and citizens to be sure our communities of Highland Park, Highwood, and Deerfield participate in this consolidation to reduce redundant forms of government.
Board Seeks Proposals for Lease and Replacement of the Winchester House Nursing Home
In an effort to ensure Winchester House's long-standing tradition of providing high-quality care continues and to pursue a replacement facility, the Lake County Board took action to begin the process of leasing the skilled nursing facility to a private company. The County will seek proposals from private operators to lease the existing facility in Libertyville for two years, while the company becomes the licensed operator and explores building a new facility in the county.  Read More and Watch Video

Land Buy Fills Gap in River Trail

The trail addition to the Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area provides the land needed to build the remaining section of the Des Plaines River Trail (DPRT) and closes the current gap that extends from just south of Riverside Road and just north of Estonian Lane in Lincolnshire. The short stretch of land borders the west edge of the river, east of Milwaukee Avenue.

The vision of a countywide trail and greenway that follows the river's edge has been in the making for 51 years. Completing this small break in the trail would allow it to stretch from Russell Road just south of the Wisconsin border to Lake Cook Road, where it connects to the Cook County Forest Preserve trail system.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2015 and be complete in summer 2015. READ MORE
