Lake County Elected Officials get salary bump
Salaries are frozen for 2 years and get 2.5% for year 3 and 4

The Lake County Board passed increases for all elected officials, including ourselves, at the May meeting.

Current Board Members receive an annual salary of $40,945 plus health insurance and retirement benefits. Our Board Chairman (appointed by the County Board every 2 years) currently receives twice the County Board salary. An amendment on the floor to increase the Chairman's salary to $99,616 was narrowly defeated. I did not support the increase for County Board members or the amendment for the Chairman.

The Treasurer, County Clerk, Recorder, Clerk of Circuit Court, and Coroner are all currently receiving an annual salary of $121,713 plus health insurance and retirement benefits.

More information on all our salaries and other information can be found on our Lake County Government Transparency Page and more specifically compensation.

New Sustainability Coordinator Hired
KC Doyle has been hired to help our staff and community
I first met KC in Oak Park many years ago at a Greentown conference while then Mayor Pope was leading Oak Park on the best practices of sustainability. In her role as Oak Park's Administrator of Sustainability, KC made great strides by developing partnerships with the community, neighboring towns, local business, and many others that understood the good economics and values of sustainability. I am honored to have KC Doyle join our team in Lake County and know that many good results will follow.
Zipcar is coming to Highland Park
Car sharing is in Lake Forest and to be in Highland Park
After working on this proposal my last few years on the Highland Park City Council it seems my hometown is finally moving forward on a car sharing service with Zipcar. Cars will be located on the west side of the downtown Highland Park Metra station. This car sharing will be perfect for metra riders who are visiting Highland Park and those nearby condo owners that can now get rid of their cars and rent one as needed.  More info

Lake County Achieving Efficiencies through Shared Services
Lake County is focusing more on opportunities to share services, eliminate duplication, and simply be more efficient. Just this month, the County Board approved a number of items that advance this initiative, including a new contract to provide police services and working with other governments to cooperatively purchase goods. Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor explains and shares more examples in this short video. Video features slides of beautiful downtown Highland Park...

On this front, as your District 11 County Board Member, I am pleased to be working with other members and the Chairman on governance integration initiatives. We are looking at efficiencies within our Lake County government, partnering with other agencies, and reducing government service costs to our residents. I am hoping this can be done by providing leadership throughout Lake County and demonstrating to our citizens the best practice of providing quality service without waste. Let me know your thoughts by contacting me.  (Steve Mandel at 847.456.6933 or [email protected])
