Lake County Board Considers 2014 Budget
The recommended FY 2014 budget is now available. The budget is balanced at $487.7 million and has remained flat for the last three years, $10 million less than five years ago. Lake County maintains a strong fiscal position and has a AAA bond rating. It is proposed that the property tax funds be increased 1.84% and to increase non-union wages by 2.85%.

 

The Lake County Board will review and discuss the budget at a series of hearings Oct. 15 and Oct. 16, (Oct 29 and Oct 30 if needed), Nov 6th at F&A, Nov. 6th at Committee of the Whole, and adopted at its meeting on Nov. 12. Come to Highwood to be a part of record-breaking history in 2013!

Pumpkin Festival takes place in Downtown Highwood along Waukegan Road/Sheridan Avenue and in the Highwood Metra Train Station parking lot. Highwood Pumpkin Fest admission is a suggested donation of $2 per person, per day in order to cover pumpkin cost.

New Early Voting location for HP and HWD
The Highland Park Police Station will be replacing the Community Health Center as the Early Voting location.
  
The Highland Park Police Station location at 1677 Old Deerfield Road will provide more parking and faster service.
  
At the request of School District 112 and the help of Mayor Nancy Rotering and the City of Highland Park, the following changes were made to remove polling places from our schools.
  • Lincoln School Precincts 212,213,214 will now vote at Immaculate Conception Church.
  • Ravinia School Precincts 216, 217 will now vote at Immaculate Conception Church.
  • Ravinia School Precincts 221, 222 will now vote at Ravinia Festival.
  • Red Oak School Precincts 211,215,218,219,220 will now vote at the Highland Park Police Station.
  • For this year Highland Park High School and Northwood Junior High School will continue to be Polling Places.

Additional information will be coming from our Clerks office and our local towns to be sure that all voters are notified.

Enroll Lake County! Educates Residents about Insurance Options Available through the Affordable Care Act
Residents looking for information on the new health insurance options available through the Affordable Care Act can talk with counselors in person at locations throughout the county. Counselors will help consumers understand coverage options, determine eligibility, and enroll in affordable health insurance options. To find a convenient location, simply enter your address in our interactive map. Enrollment locations will be highlighted on the map and relevant information about each location displayed.

The Enroll Lake County! initiative is being led by the Lake County Health Department and includes government representatives, community-based organizations, faith and civic groups, library networks, schools, businesses, and primary care providers. Visit EnrollLakeCounty.com for more information.

Seismometer at Ryerson Woods
A seismometer (a sensitive instrument that measures movement in the ground, including earthquakes) was placed underground at Ryerson Woods in the summer of 2011 as part of a nationwide research project, recording earthquakes from around the world.  To see if any special activity was recorded today, click here.

Rainbow Trout Season Opens Saturday, Oct. 19
Anglers are reminded that no trout may be taken until the fall trout season opens on October 19 at 6:30 am.  Most of the trout range in size from three-quarters to one pound. Daily creel limit is five and fishing is free. Trout Season Info
