County Board Asks Governor for Amendatory Veto of Special Legislation Creating Election Commission

Lake County is strongly opposed to proposed legislation HB 2418 and is awaiting the governor's signature that mandates the creation of an election commission in Lake County and transfers election authority from the county clerk. This legislation creates significant costs and bigger government and was not driven by any open public process. Lake County Board members were outraged that the HB 2418 legislation singles out Lake County for this change and will be of significant cost to our taxpayers. The language that only targets Lake County was inserted into a much larger piece of election related changes and on-line voter registration. The Lake County Board Chairman and Chair of RRL sent a letter to Governor Pat Quinn asking him to use his amendatory veto power to strike the language that mandates the election commission in Lake County.
