Guy's Trust News May 2016

Dear Friends
b
We have lots of good news! The bicycles that we ordered for the children at the first Guy's Trust school in Cambodia have arrived, we have just agreed to fund a third primary school in Cambodia and a second library in Nepal.
b
We hope that you'll come to one or more of our great events over the coming months and help us to continue our work in memory of Guy.
b
With thanks for your continuing support and very best wishes,
b

In Cambodia the bicycles have arrived and now the children don't have to walk for hours to get to school.
They said ..."Thank you Guy's Trust for your donation of 50 bicycles to poor students in Tany Chamka Prek primiary located in Koh Kong. They were very excited to get bicycle and promised that they would use it as a mean of transportation to access to education". We say ... thank you to all our supporters who have made this possible.
We're building a third school in Cambodia ...
Whilst in Cambodia we visited Chhouk Village school. It is currently a dilapidated wooden two-roomed building and a lean-to for over 100 children across six grades who have to attend in shifts. Guy's Trust is going to construct and equip a proper five-classroom brick building, two toilet blocks and a playground. The cost of this school will be £55,000 and work is due to start in November.
...and a second library in Nepal
In some parts of rural Nepal literacy rates are as low as 15%. Children are not able to experience the joy of  reading or expanding their knowledge through books; teachers lack the resources for stimulating teaching and entire communities have no access to information. Against this background we have decided to fund another library, this time in partnership with the Cairn Trust. The cost of the library will be around £11,000.
Guy's Global Garbage Grab 2016 - a 'world wide' beach-clean for World Oceans Day
8 June will see our (almost) simultaneous worldwide beach-clean in 19 locations around the world. We have teams in Whitley Bay and Plymouth, England; the Severn Valley, Wales; Coney Island, New York and Santa Cruz, California, USA; Komodo, Karimunjawa, Gili Trawangan and Bali, Indonesia; Hobart, Tasmania; the Australian Gold Coast; Tokoname, Japan; Kampot, Cambodia; Cyprus; Singapore; Dili, East Timor; Chumphon, Thailand; and even Pokhara in landlocked Nepal! And one very enthusiastic person who doesn't yet know where he'll be!
