Welcome to the latest newsletter from Guy's Trust. We are sending you this because you have come to one of our events, sponsored one of our fundraisers or just expressed an interest in our charity - and we want to share some of the great achievements you have helped to make possible over the last few months.
Guy's Trust was established in memory of Guy Joseph, marine biologist, scuba instructor, and paraglider who lost his life, aged 25, in 2011 in a paragliding accident. The charity was founded by his family and friends and focuses on projects that reflect his life, interests and personality.
In this newsletter .... the opening of our third school in Nepal, how Guy's Trust is helping with Nepal's post-earthquake reconstruction, our amazing world-wide beach clean to mark World Oceans Day and some dates for your diary including our forthcoming trip to build a school in Cambodia. We hope that you'll enjoy reading and that you'll continue to support us.
Best wishes

Our third school in Nepal has opened
Bhalam opening 2
We are proud to announce the opening of the third Guy Joseph kindergarten in the village of Bhalam, not far from Pokhara where Guy lived during 2010/11.

Although early childhood development is a key part of the government's education plans, progress has been slow and so the support from Guy's Trust is crucial.
The community in Bhalam has greeted the new centre with great enthusiasm, with 30 children enrolled and many community members having earned a daily wage through involvement in the construction.
We are continuing to raise funds to ensure the sustainability of this and our first two kindergartens
at Dhikupokhari and Dansingh.

Helping Nepal after the earthquakes

Although the earthquakes that hit Nepal last month didn't damage our schools, we don't need to tell you about the devastation elsewhere. Guy's Trust therefore decided to make a donation of 5,000 towards helping children who survived the earthquake get back to school and invited our supporters to add to this. We are delighted to announce that our special earthquake relief fund now stands at just under 11,500. If you would like to add to it you can still do so here.
The major part of this will go to UK-Nepali charity ChoraChori to rebuild Shree Chapakarka school in the Kathmandu valley and the rest to the British School in Kathmandu who are involved in a range of earthquake relief projects including building temporary classrooms.
Guy's Global Garbage Grab
Following the success of last year's World Oceans Day's Dive Around the World, this year we organised a world-wide beach clean. Teams in fourteen locations across five continents took part in Guy's Global Garbage Grab, each one creating one of the letters of Guy's Trust out of garbage - to draw attention to the huge problem of marine litter, to remember Guy and to raise funds towards this year's Guy Joseph Internship Programme at MantaWatch, the marine conservation organisation that Guy helped found. See our awesome photo-montage below...
